We understand that this summer will be different from the past.
Stay calm, stay safe, and be kind.
We wish you a fabulous, safe COVID Free summer!
Remember to WASH YOUR HANDS!
Staff Good-byes
As in all years, we have staff who will not be returning for the 2020-2021 school year. We
would like to acknowledge these staff who will be leaving us. We would like to thank and
wish the very best to Ms. Veronica Cox, who has been on our teaching staff this year. Ms.
Cox has accepted a teaching position at Buckingham Elementary. We would also like to rec-
ognize and thank Ms. Grace Novak one of our Educational Assistants who has been with us
for two years. And finally Mr. Michael Heathcote who has been our temporary Crossing
Guard. We appreciate each one of these individuals who have made a difference for all of us
as Capitol Hill, and we wish them the very best!

Congratulations to Capitol Hill Grade 7 Students!
Although it was not the school year we predicted or imagined, your persever-
ance and dedication to completing elementary school under COVID circum-
stances will give you skills that you will use and benefit from in future situa-
tions. A true hornet always puts in their best efforts, and demonstrates socially
responsible behaviour. We wish you continued success as you venture into high
school.

Tuesday, September 8th is the first day of school for the 2020-2021
school year!
Hopefully in September we will all be able to return to school on a full-time basis.
On the first day, students will go to their 2019-2020 classroom teacher. They will
stay with that teacher until the end of the first week. Please keep checking our
website for updates.
The City of Burnaby is working hard to see a reopening of programs, services and facilities. They have developed a
framework that guides their approach to reopening facilities and services in stages,
to protect the health and safety of all users and staff. Take a look at what the city
has to offer at https://www.burnaby.ca/City-Services/Public-Safety/Novel-Coronavirus--COVID-19-/City-Facilities-and-Programs-Restart.html

To all Grade 7 parents
We wanted to let you know how much we’ve appreciated all your support thru the year. Whether it was
buying cupcakes or freezies, helping to pop popcorn every week or volunteering at a bake sale. It all
counts and is all appreciated so much!
With the situation we’ve all been thru these last few months our Grade 7’s were not able to have their
camp adventure, their graduation ceremony (live anyway) or the luncheon.
The fundraising committee was able to get approval from the District to spend the funds raised only a few
weeks before school closing. Unfortunately that left little to no time to get anything personalized for each
student. Thru the hard work of a few parents, a gift bag with some helpful items was put together and will
be distributed to each Grad when they pick up their report cards and graduation certificates.
The remainder of the money will be donated to the school to go towards the Outdoor Classroom project
for next year. A plaque to thank the 2020 Grads will be put up once it’s complete.
This is not how we all wanted to end the school year. For some of us this journey started in Kindergarten
while others joined our community for only the last few years. The important thing to remember is that
we made it through to the other side. Our kids are going off to a new adventure. Some with friends
joining them, some going to a whole new country; but thru it all they will always be Hornets at heart.
Fierce, strong and capable. We hope whatever journey our Grads undertake they remember the core
values they learned at Capitol Hill. Be kind and be strong!
Enjoy the summer everyone!
