MARK YOUR CALENDARS, PLEASE…
for a day of church-wide CELEBRATION!
On April 3rd
, the Reverend Tim Rogers, Superintendent of the Marion District, will be with us in worship and proclaim God’s Word.
We will come together in a
COMBINED WORSHIP SERVICE ON April 3
rd at 10:30 AM in the Sanctuary
so that we may enjoy a unified celebration of what God is doing through us
as we are led by our “little angels” in this special place.
The Reverend Rogers will receive the LARGE “symbolic” checks representing contributions through the Advent and Lenten Angel Pennies to the SC Annual Conference – sponsored missions:
Photographs taken that morning of the Reverend Rogers receiving these gifts on behalf of the
SC Annual Conference from our “little angels” will be submitted to the Conference.
We very much want ALL of our “little angels” to be in the photographs… So…
Please have your “little angels” present during the 10:30 AM worship service to be a part of this church-wide
CELEBRATION captured in photographs!
It marks a special day in the history of Trinity UMC and we want YOU to be a part of the FUN!!!
Shalom to you…
Welcome to the Season of Easter…
We have passed through Lent, Holy Week, the Great Three Days (the Triduum), and have entered the Season of Easter. How wonderful is the event of the Resurrection of Jesus the Christ that we need an entire liturgical season to celebrate this gift from God. Each of the Sundays of Easter has a focus on the life and ministry of Jesus (Easter Day, Thomas Sunday, Meal Sunday, Good Shepherd Sunday, I AM Sunday, and Ascension Sunday). Ancient Monasticism began with the Desert Fathers and Mothers. People would often approach them and make the request, “give me a word.” Part of the adaptation of this ancient tradition during the first week of the Season of Easter is to give special focus to “a word” each day:
Easter Day: Resurrection Monday: New Life Tuesday: Victory
Wednesday: Embodiment Thursday: Power
Friday: Empty Tomb Saturday: Follow
First Sunday after Easter Day: Conversion
As we continue our Easter celebration, we come to the moment you have all been waiting for… (Drum Roll, please…) Lent Madness has come to a conclusion. The brackets are complete…
The Recipient of the 2016 Golden Halo has been announced… and the winner is:
Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945)
Dietrich Bonhoeffer grew up in a home that valued education. He earned a doctorate in theology in 1927 from the University of Berlin at the age of twenty-one. He also studied at Union Theological Seminary in New York City from 1930-1931. As the Nazi party was gaining notoriety and power in Germany, many of Bonhoeffer’s friends urged him to stay in the United States rather than return to Germany, but he opted to go home. Upon his return to Germany, Bonhoeffer accepted a position as lecturer in systematic theology at the University of Berlin. He also began teaching confirmation classes for adolescent males in a Berlin slum. When Adolf Hitler came to power in 1933, Bonhoeffer became a leading spokesman about Hitler’s dictatorship and spoke out against his program of genocide and the Jewish Holocaust. Bonhoeffer helped organize an underground seminary. He authored a book entitled, The Cost of Discipleship, which is still in print and used today in many theological circles. In 1939, Bonhoeffer, through his brother-in-law, became aware of the existence of a group whose intent was to overthrow Hitler. Because of his knowledge of this group and this affiliate connection, in April 1943, just after becoming engaged to be married, Bonhoeffer was arrested and imprisoned. Later he was moved to a concentration camp at Flossenburg. On April 9, 1945, just days before the American army would liberate Flossenburg, Dietrich Bonhoeffer was hanged at the age of thirty-one. His family would not learn of it for months. The July before he had written to his trusted friend (and later biographer), Eberhard Bethge, one day after the failed assassination attempt on Hitler’s life: “May God lead us kindly through these times, but above all, may God lead us to himself.” Dietrich Bonhoeffer was a theologian, poet, author, and pastor. His passion for living out his faith fueled his discipleship and ministry and ultimately cost him his life. Through his prolific writings, he continues to serve as a prophetic and inspiring voice for the Church universal. The last words of Dietrich Bonhoeffer before his hanging are appropriate for this celebration of the close of the Lenten season and the opening of the Easter Season: “This is the end – for me the beginning of life.”

Evangelism tip
We draw people to Christ not by loudly discrediting what they believe, by telling them how wrong they are and how right we are, but by showing them a light that is so lovely that they want with all their hearts to know the source of it. —Madeleine L’Engle
Kairos cookies need to be turned in at the church office by Noon on Tuesday, April 5.
Financial contributions may be turned into the church
office. Please make checks payable to Trinity UMC designated on the “for” line to KAIROS.
Gentle Reminder: If your address or phone number has changed, please notify the church office . Many individuals and families have moved away from land lines and only use cell phone contact numbers - and we may not have that information. It is most helpful to the church office and to
the WE Care groups to have the current contact information. Thank you in advance for your help!
Fools for Christ April Fools’ Day isn’t a religious holiday, though it may date to Pope Gregory XIII and his new calendar. In 1582, he shifted New Year’s Day from April to January, and people who didn’t believe the change were called April fools. April Fools’ Day may also be connected to the lightheartedness that comes with warmer weather, as well as to medieval Christian festivals that involved pranks, disguises and a temporarily inverted social order. Yet, in Scripture, such reversal characterizes the kingdom of God. In 1 Corinthians 1:18-25, St. Paul writes that the gospel seems foolish to people who don’t know Christ, that God uses the “foolishness of our proclamation” to offer salvation to all and that God’s foolishness is wiser than human wisdom. Jesus “foolishly” inverted the social order, saying the last will be first and the first, last. So if on April 1 — and every day — we live as “fools for Christ,” we’re precisely what he calls us to be!

Anderson Oaks Assisted Living, at 997 Hwy 90, hosts a monthly support group meeting for families and caregivers of people suffering from Alzheimer’s. The meeting is sponsored by the Alzheimer’s Association of South Carolina which maintains an office in Myrtle Beach.
The meeting is informal and offers sources for help and information. The meeting is held at 4:00 PM on the third Tuesday of each month. For more information, call Buck Cutts at 248-9138.
Dear Trinity,
Thank you for all the support you gave me while my shoulder was broken. I appreciate all the cards, gifts, and most of all the prayers. I felt them all. God bless you all.
In Christ's love, Lynn Spires
Dear Trinity UMC,
On behalf of all the children at Epworth, thank you for your generous support during the Christmas season. Your support for these children during the holidays and throughout the year gives the children new opportunities to heal and grow. Thank you for your support and for believing in the children at Epworth.
Sincerely, Epworth Children's Home
Dear Pastor Sandra, Please express our gratitude to your congregation for their kind donation of $261.22 from the December Advent Lunch. The clinic is celebrating 50 years of service in 2015. This is the oldest free medical clinic in South Carolina beginning in 1965. We are appreciative of the financial support received from Trinity United Methodist Church. It goes a long way in assisting low income adults in Horry County seeking medical care and medications. Sincerely, The Friendship Medical Clinic
Dear Trinity Family, Thank you so much for your many expressions of friendship, love and support during my daddy's hospitalization and passing. I could count on receiving a visit, card or call from someone at Trinity almost every day. Your kind gestures were uplifting to both my daddy and to me. Daddy looked forward to Sundays and his time with his church family. Thank you for all of the handshakes, hugs, and kisses you shared with him. He gave me a full report at lunch on Sundays! Your love and concern for him meant so much. The reception hosted by the We Care ministry after daddy's memorial service was such a nice gesture and very helpful to my family. It was nice to have a place to gather and greet our friends who had come to honor daddy. The food and drinks were appreciated by all, but especially those who were traveling. Thank you for this and your many other acts of love. I could truly see Christ in all you did for my family and me. Gratefully, Melinda Hyman
Thank you for your donation to our ministry. Your gift of $699.50 will enable us to continue fulfilling our mission of "Sharing God's Love One Meal at a Time."
The Board of Directors The Shepherd's Table
Dear Trinity United Methodist,
Thank you so much for your generous gift of $250 for the New Directions Men's Shelter. Your support is a great blessing to us. We could not do this without you. New Directions for Men, Women, and Families
Dear TUMC We Care Group,
The family of Patty Jo Gainey thanks you for your kind expression of sympathy.
Thank you so much for the delicious meal that you all provided when Boyd's mother, Patty Jo Gainey, passed away. Our family was overwhelmed by your generosity and support. The fabulous meal, impromptu child care, and swift kitchen cleaners were wonderful examples of Trinity's generous heart.
We love you! The Gaineys
Trinity Members,
Thank you so much for the beautiful baby blanket for our little JJ.
We are so blessed to have a supportive church filled with friends and family.
Thank you again, Jordan & Kandace Hyman

The “Credo”
I believe in one true God, who is the creator of everything, the maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, begotten not made,
who was fully human and fully divine.
I believe in the forgiveness of sins.
I believe that Jesus died on the cross; was buried in a tomb;
and rose from the dead on the third day so that we might have eternal life.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the giver of life, the everlasting Spirit whom God sent to live
within us.
I believe in the universal church.
I believe the church is filled with many saints now and in the past.
I believe that we are all connected through God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit.
I believe God is always with us.
I believe that I am a disciple of Jesus Christ.
I believe that the Holy Spirit guides us to serve our neighbors for God’s glory. Amen.
