Come, You Thankful People, ComeVU 516

2

Come you thankful people, come, raise the song of harvest home! All is safely gathered in, safe before the storms begin.

3

God, our maker, does provide for our needs to be supplied: come to God’s own temple, come, raise the song of harvest home!

4

All the world is God’s own field, harvests for God’s praise to yield, wheat and weeds together sown, here for joy or sorrow grown.

5

first the blade and then the ear, then the full corn shall appear. Harvest given, grant that we wholesome grain and pure may be.

6

For our God, one day, shall come, and shall take this harvest home, from the field shall in that day all offences purge away;

7

giving angels charge at last in the fire the weeds to cast, but the fruitful ears to store in the garner evermore.

8

Even so, God quickly come to your final harvest home! Gather all your people in, free from sorrow, free from sin;

9

there forever purified, in your presence to abide: come, with all your angels come, raise the glorious harvest home.

10

11

Gathered here, we sense the Sacred in this place. May we be awakened again to the mysteries that humble us, the realities that orient us, the beauty that informs us, the fellowship that sustains us,

12

and the creativity that heightens and deepens our living, that we may give ourselves in honesty and openness to the larger life before us.

13

14

The body of Christ alive in this place, We are Christ’s hands, his feet and his face. Both women and men and the young and the old Each one is a part that we need for the whole.

15

We drink from the cup, we eat of the bread. From my hand to yours, each one will be fed. The rich and the poor this great banquet shall share. With Christ as our host we will rest in God’s care.

16

As we eat the meal, join voices in song, our bodies are fed, our spirits grow strong. In joy or in sorrow, united we’ll be: One body, one Spirit, one great mystery.

17

18

Gracious God - we thank you for calling us together today to worship you as a family. We thank you that we are not alone - that you have provided for us fellow pilgrims on the way you have set before us.

19

Fill us with your heavenly food this day, visit us and prepare us by our worship and in our fellowship for that which lies before us. Help us to praise you with joy and to pray with conviction and to serve you with all our hearts. Amen.

20

21

Our Father in heaven, hallowed by your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those

22

who sin against us. Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from evil for the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours, now and forever.

23

24

25

Some Pharisees approached Jesus and asked, 'Is it against the law for a man to divorce his wife?' They were testing Jesus, who answered them, ‘What did Moses command you?' 'Moses allowed us' they said 'to draw up a writ of dismissal and so to divorce.'

26

Then Jesus said to them, 'It was because you were so unteachable that Moses wrote this commandment for you. But from the beginning of creation God made them male and female.

27

‘This is why a man must leave father and mother, and the two become one body. They are no longer two, therefore, but one body. ‘So then, what God has united, no one must divide.'

28

Back in the house the disciples questioned Jesus again about this, who said to them. 'The man who divorces his wife and marries another is guilty of adultery against her. And if a woman divorces her husband and marries another she is guilty of adultery too.'

29

People were bringing little children for Jesus to touch them. The disciples turned them away, but Jesus, seeing this, was indignant and said to them, 'Let the little children come to me; do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the realm of God belongs.

30

‘I tell you solemnly, anyone who does not welcome the realm of God like a little child will never enter it.' Then Jesus put his arms round them, laid his hands on them and gave them his blessing.

31

32

33

We gather around the Table in places far and near Side 1: Eating Sourdough, Rye, Tortillas Side 2: Crackers, Wafers, and Wonderbread– The body of Christ.

34

Drinking the wine or the juice Side 1: from handmade chalices and silver goblets, Side 2: golden spoons and little mini cups– The blood of Christ.

35

Leader: The bread and the cup unite us with all who would follow Jesus. Side 1: This meal reaches back through the centuries. Side 2: This table reaches around the world. Let us eat and drink with joy.

36

The table is set. All is prepared. Come as you are. All are welcome to the banquet of life.

37

38

We break this bread in celebration of the great truth that on this tiny planet, hurtling through cold, empty space, death is made the servant of life, and out of death, life is forever resurrected.

39

40

This cup with its fruit of the vine, is a celebration that things are not always as they seem: that out of faithfulness and steadfastness, out of suffering and sorrow, may come unsought blessings.

41

42

To eat and drink together reminds us of the deeper aspects of human fellowship, for from time immemorial the sharing of bread and wine has been the most universal of all symbols of community.

43

44

God of today and tomorrow we live between memory and hope for your kin-dom come on earth as it is in heaven. We go forth now full and ready to do your work in faith and love.

45

46

47

The church is wherever God’s people are praising, singing God’s goodness for joy on this day.

48

The church is wherever disciples of Jesus remember his story and walk in his way.

49

We thank you God for all your blessings, and most especially the blessing of your caring presence. We offer to you now these gifts and the intentions of our hearts that you will use them and us in your work to bring your healing and your

love to others. Amen. 50

When a Poor OneVU 702

51

When a poor one who has nothing shares with strangers, when the thirsty water give unto us all, when the wounded in their weakness strengthen others,

52

then we know that God still goes that road with us, then we know that God still goes that road with us.

53

When at last all those who suffer find their comfort, when they hope though even hope seems hopelessness, when we love though hate at times seems all around us,

54

then we know that God still goes that road with us, then we know that God still goes that road with us.

55

When our joy fills up our cut to overflowing, when our lips can speak no words other than true, when we know that love for simple things is better,

56

then we know that God still goes that road with us, then we know that God still goes that road with us.

57

When our homes are filled with goodness in abun-dance, when we learn how to make peace instead of war, when each stranger that we meet is called a neighbour,

58

then we know that God still goes that road with us, then we know that God still goes that road with us.

59

Go in peace, love yourself with the love that God has for you, love one another as Christ has shown you how, And may God's arms surround us and embrace us and hallow our days and our nights, both now and forevermore. Amen
