Using PMP as a fund raising tool for community arts programs…how can we accomplish this?

The Community Music Foundation, Inc (COMFI):

Mission Statement: The mission of the Community Music Foundation, Inc (COMFI) is to facilitate the promotion and presentation of quality, popular style musical performance groups to communities in Georgia, the Southeast, Southwest, Midwest and Mountain regions of the USA. COMFI is a Georgia registered non-profit corporation based in Metro Atlanta, GA.

COMFI has seven focus elements for funding & mission results:

Promotion of affordable, high quality live performances for communities;

Utilization of these performance programs to facilitate funding for the arts and arts education within each community;

Develop the performance arts as a key contributing element within each community’s 21st century economic development plan;

Funding of master classes and seminars for community and school musical organizations;

Funding Support for soloists of COMFI performance groups;

Funding of college level study through COMFI scholarship programs for string, vocal, brass, wind, piano, percussion and conducting talent; and

Funding for the development of musical arrangements for the pops style performance ensembles to be published through COMFI auspices.

Organizational Structure of COMFI:

COMFI is an Georgia Incorporated non-profit corporation;

COMFI has filed it’s1023 application with the IRS for 501c3 status. We do not anticipate refusal and expect a very timely approval;

COMFI has officers and directors (full board will be announced on September 30, 2006;

A copy of our amended articles of incorporation is available with the Georgia Secretary of State Office;

COMFI will be a fully transparent organization and will not spend more than 25% of its funding on non-performance supporting activities;

During 2008 COMFI will develop the Georgia model into other states;

COMFI can be pictured a a facilitator/partner…that in many ways functions like a college or university: (1) Alumni Association; and (2) Associated foundation;

COMFI will seek to fund up to 35% of the cost of selected performance groups with special focus on signature events that can produce funding opportunities for the community’s performance arts needs;

COMFI has engaged Altieri & Associates Entertainment Services, Inc to provide musical performance groups as appropriate;

Altieri & Associates is developing direct association with other booking companies in other states;

COMFI has a contract with Altieri & Associates to provide support management with other musical groups provided through other booking agents;

COMFI must help assure each community their event will take place and be what you expect…. Altieri & Associates will assist in this quality assurance process.

Linking Four Key Regions of the USA will benefitGeorgia’s Communities

What is Metro?

What is Rural?

What Can We Do?

Rethinking the Connection….

…rethink, Inventory our assets, needs, technology and…

re-assemble our Mainstreet Georgia for mutual success….

We can be virtualWith “real people”

“…Connecting Georgia Communities Through Professional Music Performance (PMP)”

COMFI is currently developing a website that will linkGeorgia Communities to each other without giving up Local Control. It will be able to provide the following:

A public PMP State-wide calendar for all COMFI members to post your events….

…an as needed PMPevent web site fora specific community event for COMFI members….

COMFI Member

What does the math look like?

First…some of the variables:

Size of the Venue (PITS) Best Fit Group and Type Fund Raising or Breakeven? Just-in-time or Scheduled Outside community support yes/no? Have you done this before? What is your 1~3 Year Plan? Does this group fit? Let’s try one…

Venue Size: 1,000 (PPITS)Group Cost: $15,000Outside Community Support: $5,000Community Support (non-ticket): $5,000Net Cost Per Seat ($5,000/1,000 = $5.00 per seatIf Ticket Price (avg.) is $25.00Attendance @ 50% (500); 75% (750); 90% (900); 100%

It assumes there is no venue cost and all people support is gratis. Marketing is assumed to be “in-kind” or to be funded from net revenue below.

If Net Revenue is $20.00 per PITS then NR is for the above assumptions: $10,000; $15,000; $18,000; and $20,000 respectively.

Our Future together:

Linking of Communities

Program & Event Support

Financial Planning

External Community Funding Development

2006: 5 to 10 COMFI Sponsored Events 2007: ECFD ($250,000) CSE 2008: ECFD ($500,000) CSE 2009: ECFD ($1,000,000) CSE
