• RC Cosmo Club News and Notes Cosmopolitan Noon Luncheon Monday March 2, 2020

• The Rapid City Cosmopolitan Club met Monday –March 2, 2020 at Thirsty’s.

• Maggie Engler – Co Founder and Director of the Black Hills Raptor Center spoke to the members about the mission of the Black Hills Raptor Center is to conserve and protect native birds of prey and their natural habitats through education, rehabilitation, and research.

Freya

• Freya was found near the side of the road in eastern South Dakota. She was brought to the Black Hills Raptor Center. There she was treated for her health problems and has since been used numerous times In presentations about Raptors.

Red-tailed Hawk

• Red-tailed hawks are likely the most common bird of prey in North America. They thrive in many different habitats –open country, woodland, mountains, and more. You can see these familiar birds perched upon fenceposts throughout the state.

Red-tailed Hawk• Freya was hatched in 2018 in

northeastern South Dakota and is nonreleasable due to broken wing bones that healed incorrectly. She is flighted, but not strong enough she can hunt on her own.

• Keen eyesight allows these hawks to hunt prey from high in their air as they soar, or from the comfort of a perch. Prey ranges in size from rats to rabbits!
