Creating a Network Diagram
Teacher's Guide
Why use Google Draw
• It is FREE
• Ready made templates
• Children can collaborate with each other on the same diagram at the same time.
• Vector images, so diagrams can be scaled, moved and copied easily.
• It works on PCs, Macs & Chromebooks
1. Ask students what they know about the school network
2. Either give out Network Components sheet or show them on the screen.
3. Take a tour of the school network (Or whatever you can show the students)
4. Share the link to the template.
5. Students draw their network diagram
6. Plenary - Ask them how they could make the network more reliable
Homework idea: Write a report/Email to the headteacher on how to improve the network.
Example Lesson Plan
• Ask your technician or network administrator to give you a tour or as a teacher find out what equipment is in the building
• Students can bring along Chromebooks or pen and paper
• Make sure you point out highlights such as network switches, routers, wireless access points etc
The Guided Tour
• Students can draw a network map of the room.
• You can provide partially filled in templates
• Take photos or a video showing students the important parts of the network
