payments industry in the region during 2012 & 2013.It was a landmark achievement for HNB to win this
coveted award, as the best institution for risk management in acquisition business, because this was the first
time that Sri Lanka was honoured with this accolade, said Mangala P. Wickramasinghe, Head of Cards &
Electronic Delivery Channels, HNB. HNB was selected based on three qualifying factors; namely the lowest
fraud to sales ratio in acquiring, the adoption of effective risk management practices to minimize fraud and
finally, selection by a jury comprised of VISA Risk Management personnel across APCEMEA (Asia Pacific,
Central Europe, Middle East & Africa). Admittedly, it has always been a difficult proposition to win any awardacross Asia since the volumes processed by leading banks in the region were huge, he said. It was a singular
achievement for HNB to bag this award at the VISA Security Summit because India and the South Asian
region as a whole competed for this category.

USD700 mn, a top Ports Authority official confirmed. Negotiations are ongoing with this Chinese investor
and it will consist of several phases, Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) Planning and Development Chief
Engineer Susantha Abeysiriwardena said, adding that funding would be done solely by the said investor. I
am not in a position to disclose the identity of the investor at the moment, he was quick to add. He furthernoted that the total investment, although still too premature to disclose, would be a substantial one.The
project is said to commence by end-2013 and completed within three years. However, Abeysiriwardena
added that considering the magnitude of the project, various expansions will take place over a period of 10-
15 years.

Global News
Japan Exports Surge Most Since 2010 in Boost for Abe: EconomyJapans exports rose more than forecast inMay as a weaker yen boosted the value of overseas sales, underscoring the profit boon for manufacturers
from Prime Minister Shinzo Abes reflation campaign. The value of shipments abroad increased 10% in Mayfrom a year earlier, the most since 2010 and exceeding the 6.4% median estimate in a Bloomberg News
survey of economists, a Finance Ministry report showed in Tokyo. At the same time, export volume dropped
4.8%. Todays data reflect an almost 12% slide in the yen against the dollar in the past six months that stoked
criticism from trade partners including South Korea that Japans monetary stimulus is distorting commerce.
The key for Abe is that exporters from Nintendo Co. (7974) to Mazda Motor Corp. (7261) use profit gains to
boost wages and investment at home. The yens exchange rate, even though it has been adjusted a bit
recently, is still weaker than last years level and giving a lot of impetus for Japans export drive, said Long
Hanhua Wang, an economist at Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc in Tokyo.

Housing Starts in U.S. Rose in May to 914,000 Annual Rate: Builders began work on more U.S. houses inMay and permits for new single-family homes rose to a five-year high as residential real estate underpins an
economy thats generating little inflation. Housing starts climbed 6.8%, less than forecast, to a 914,000
annualized rate from a revised 856,000 in April, Commerce Department figures showed today in
Washington. Applications for one-family home construction increased to a 622,000 pace, the fastest since
May 2008. Data from the Labor Department showed May consumer prices rose less than projected. Building
permits that exceed the pace of ground-breaking signal further construction gains that will propel growth as
manufacturing cools and federal budget cuts take hold. Inflation below the Federal Reserves 2 % goal gives
policy makers the leeway to address joblessness as they consider at their meeting today and tomorrow
when to dial down record monetary stimulus.
