AT-2AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION - DESCRIPTION
DESCRIPTIONGENERAL
The new A442F automatic transmission is a 4 —speed Electronic Controlled Automatic Trans-mission and has following features;Electronic control provides shift and lock —up points most appropriate for the power charac-teristics of each engine and improves shift response.A high —performance super flow torque converter is used to improve starting off, accelerationand fuel economy. For easier operation, the shift lever positions have been reduced from 7 (P,R,N,D,3,2,L) to the 6positions (P,R,N,D,2,L) used in passenger vehicles, and an O/D main switch has been provided onthe shift lever. On vehicles using the 1FZ —FE engine, shift response has been greathly improved by commu-nication between the Engine ECU and ECT ECU to momentarily reduce engine output whenshifting.

HYDRAULIC CONTROL SYSTEM
The hydraulic control system is composed of the oil pump, the valve body, the solenoid valve, theaccumulators, the clutches and brakes, as well as the fluid passages which connect all of thesecomponents.Based on the hydraulic pressure crated by the oil pump, the hydraulic control system governedthe hydraulic pressure acting on the torque converter, clutches and brakes in accordance with thevehicle driving conditions. There are solenoid valves on the valve body.

WARNING AND INDICATOR LIGHTS
A.T FLUID TEMPERATURE WARNING SYSTEMThe ECT ECU detects the transmission fluid temperature by means of a fluid temperature sensorfitted to the union. The transmission fluid may become extremely hot when the vehicle is underand extreme load, as when driving on sand or climbing uphill. Should the fluid temperatureincreases above 150 °C (302°F), the ECT ECU lights the warning light located the combinationmeter. The light goes off when the temperature falls below 120 °C (248 °F).
A.T.P. (Automatic Transmission Parking) INDICATORThe rear propeller shaft and rear wheels are free even when the transmission shift lever is set to"P" as long as the transfer shift lever is in "neutral" position. The A.T.P. indicator lights up to warnthe driver that the propeller shaft and wheels are not locked. If the A.T.P. indicator light does on,the transfer shift lever should be shifted to out of "N" position.
