Sketchbook Assignment #1: Design for Screen-Printing Project Due 3/24 Concept: Develop a strong visual image to be used for our last project of the year: printmaking. This should be a silhouette, black and white design with no other shading/value or color. The black part of your design (the positive space) will be printed and the white of your design (the negative space) will not. The image you create will be printed multiple times on Bristol board and clothing (if you choose to bring in a t-shirt) See examples on back.
Develop a design that: Is your original artwork/idea/design
Can be: a personal logo, a non-objective design, something from nature, a landscape, etc. Should be something that you personally connect with, represents you
Can be traced from a photograph you have taken yourself Demonstrates your understanding of balance, rhythm, movement, contrast and emphasis Create one image or multiple images within the same area
Is stylized or simplified (Avoid thin, wispy lines or delicate details as they will be difficult to print) Use pencil to create a framed area in your sketchbook- this can be any shape and should be about or near 5” x 7” (due to screen size)
Shade your drawing so that the positive spaces are black and the negative spaces are white
