The 6 reasons why our industry has a digital skills problem

1. Digital skills are mostly learned ‘on-the-job’ therefore knowledge is not gained unless one has worked in a specific digital team or role

2. Typically, specialists are not commercially incentivised to pass on their ‘tools of the trade’ to broader audiences

– And rarely have the time to share due to existing time pressures

3. As numbers of senior marketers or agency staff decrease, less time is dedicated for on-the-job mentoring or coaching across digital skills

4. Busy marketers rarely make (or have) time to learn digital skills they so desperately want or need

5. Marketers simply don’t have a single, reliable source of knowledge to find this information

6. At large, the industry does not have many informal or formal skills based learning programs.

– When it does it’s typically platform specific, therefore skewed or does not cover the full breadth of digital marketing.
