Concept of nAch (need for Achievement).

Developed by: David McClelland, American Psychologist.

Definition: nAch refers to the intrinsic will or drive to master tasks. It is considered as essential driving force of human behavior. It is most important component of success.A person’s achievement oriented behavior is based on three components:

1. The person predisposition to achievement.

2. Probability of success.

3. Individual’s perception of the value of the task.

Continued…

How do you asses nAch?There are several methods of assessment.

-Projective Techniques.

The Thematic Apperception Test (TAT).

-Self – Rating scales.

Achievement Motivation Scale.

-Structured Interviewing techniques.

It is not always about the money.High Achievers and Money has a complex relation.-They value their services highly and place a high price tag on them.-They seem to be more concerned about the personal achievement than reward for success.

-They do not reject rewards but the rewards are not essential as the accomplishment itself.-They get a bigger “kick” out of solving a difficult problem than they get from any money or praise.-High Achievers values money as symbol of their achievement and adequacy.

Conclusion:

“The achiever is only the individual who is truly alive.”

- George Allen Quotes.
