BACKGROUNDOriginal ideas are rightfully celebratedin the world of entertainment, but noteverything has to be original to besuccessful. In fact, many popularmovies are inspired by books, comics,and even television shows that camebefore them.

THE LISTHere are a few such movies that havebeen adapted from television shows.The list includes a variety of genres,eras, and styles, with some of themhaving multiple movies and/or a seriesof them.

LEAVE ITTO BEAVER40 years after its television debut, thehighly successful sitcom wasdeveloped into a movie in the late1990s. It did not achieve successcomparable to its predecessor, but itworked to pay homage to the show ina variety of ways.

STARTREKIn addition to another iteration of theshow, the highly popular sciencefiction series has spawned more thana dozen movies since 1979, with itslatest expected to be released in thesummer of 2016.

BATMANWhen this DC comic was turned into atelevision show, it became animmediate hit. Thus, it's no surprisethat its success resulted in a series of afilms which are now iconic in their ownright.

THEMUPPETSHOWDescribed as a family-oriented show,reminiscent of Sesame Street, wherepuppets and celebrities interacted tocreate comedic sketches, the showlaunched multiple movies in theatersand made-for-tv, which grossedmillions of dollars.

SATURDAYNIGHT LIVEWith more than 40 years on air, livesketch comedy show has managed toturn short, popular sketches into fullmovies, such as Coneheads, Superstar,Wayne's World, and A Night At TheRoxbury.

STARSKY &HUTCHThis movie turned television series wasturned into a movie again, nearly threedecades after its debut. Like thetelevision show, the film achievedsignificant success, with revenuesnearly triple the budget at box office.

SCOOBYDOOBringing the cartoon world to real life,the first of 4 Scooby Doo movies(including two that were made for tv)was a hit in theaters and amongaudiences, despite striking a sour notewith critics.
