Emily Noyes Vanderpoel (1842-1939) was an artist, collector, scholar and historian working at the dawn of the 20th century. Color Problems: A Practical Manual for the Lay Student of Color was her first and most prominent work, outlining a comprehensive study on color theory at the time. In support of the text, there are 116 colour illustrations. I am drawn to her gridded Color Analysis works, which are an abstraction of observed domestic/common objects from the time. Each of the following 'Color Plates' will inform the colour palettes for each of the rooms in the house museum. The colours are contextually linked to the early 20th century era - a point in time that the site and house museum is dealing with through the various scenographic layers. Using the following Colour Plates as inspiration, I will use the same Color Analysis process to create colour and material schemes for each individual room of the house museum.
