And I laugh
It is the correct response
Laughter can sometimes be
Divisive and cynical
OR
Joyful and humorous
Both Sarah and Abraham
Laughed the laughter of scorn and ridicule when they 1st heard the promise of God.
God kept his promise
And their scornful laughter turned to joyful laughter
This is the laughter that we experience as we receive by faith the
Grace of God and Jesus Christ
All that hear will laugh with me
Genesis 21:6 KJV
6 And Sarah said, God hath made me to laugh, so that all that hear will laugh with me.
Far above the power of nature
& contrary to all its laws
That Sarah old & dried up
Should have a baby
& become a mother to a son
It is also beyond all ordinary rules
That I, a poor, helpless, undone sinner
Should find grace to bear about in my soul the indwelling Spirit of the Lord Jesus
I once despaired & try as I might
Was without any
knowledge of hope
For my nature was as dry
Withered
Barren
Accursed as a howling wilderness
So it is beyond
All natural rules &
expectation that
Even I have been made
to bring forth fruit
unto holiness.
Well may my mouth
be filled with
joyous laughter
Because of this
I have received, of the Lord Jesus, singular &
surprising grace
For I have found Jesus Christ
He is the promised seed
He is mine for ever
I’m like Sarah& I will laugh
because the Son is born
This day & every day
I will lift up psalms of triumph unto the Lord
I will laugh, sing songs and rejoice
Yes The Lord has remembered me
The Lord has remembered my low & lost estate
God the father in love has sent his son, the Lord Jesus, to die and rise again so that I, believing in him, might receive forgiveness for my sins and be made anew creature in Christ.
I laugh – I rejoice
For my heart rejoices in the Lord
My horn is exalted in the Lord
My mouth is enlarged over mine enemies
Because I rejoice in thy salvation
I tell you all that I will laugh
Laugh more than those great women of old
Sarah – having a son when there was no natural hope
Miriam – dancing & laughing at the end of her slavery
Hannah – presenting the son of her dreams
~Hannah's Song of Thanksgiving
• [KJV] [1SA 2:1] And Hannah prayed, and said, My heart rejoiceth in the LORD, mine horn is exalted in the LORD: my mouth is enlarged over mine enemies; because I rejoice in thy salvation.
I want all those who hear of
My great deliverance from hell
My most blessed encounter & visitation from on high
To laugh with me
I want them to laugh for joy with me
I would surprise my family with my abundant peace
I would delight my friends with my ever-increasing happiness
I would edify the Church with my grateful confessions
I even intend to impress the world with the cheerfulness of my daily conversation
Bunyan tells us
That Christianna heard Mercy laugh in her sleep, and no wonder when she
dreamed of Jesus
My joy shall not be less
Nor will my joy & laughter stop short of
hers
My Beloved is the theme of
my daily thoughts
The Lord Jesus is a deep sea of joy
My soul dives into its depths
I am swallowed up in the delights of his company
Sarah looked on her Isaac
She laughed with excess of rapture & joy
All her friends laughed with her
And You, my soul, look on our Jesus
Call – yes bid heaven and earth unite in
your joy unspeakable and full of glory
That you might be found
• ….. Unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls. 1Pe 1:7-9
Is it any wonder
• That we who know the Lord Jesus should laugh?
