What are hydrocarbons?Hydrocarbons are compounds of great

abundance in nature and are composed of carbon and hydrogen atoms, the first structural feature of a frame which is joined by hydrogen atoms. Forming the basic skeleton of the organic molecules and therefore are also known as organic compounds.

How do we find them? These compounds may be found in geological

formations, both liquid (commonly known with the name of oil) as a gas (natural gas).

Thus, these oils provide an economic activity of prime importance worldwide, as they constitute the major fossil fuels, as well as raw material for all types of plastics, waxes and lubricants.

According to their shapes (petroleum and petroleum products), are assigned a certain economic value. But we must add that these are responsible for serious pollution problems in the natural environment, level surface and even affect large groundwater reserves.

Why affect the environment? The processes are performed on hydrocarbons

for fuels, produce various wastes, which are the various phases making up the hydrocarbon reagents are added to acquire each.

These processes are in some way toxic substances, which are polluting the environment.

Where pollute? When the hydrocarbon feedstock is in the

nature reserves, usually these affect the groundwater and contaminate water that are close to the nuclei of hydrocarbons, and also directly affect the lands where they rest.

Where pollute? When hydrocarbon cores are in the depths of

the seas, usually at the time of extraction and transportation, these substances directly contaminate the marine flora and fauna, completely destroying all these forms of life.

What is removed in the atmosphere?

At the time of refining for hydrocarbon fuels, they generate different emission of harmful gases into the environment and the atmosphere, such as carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide. This means that in most cases it emanates CO2.
