WHAT IS AN ENGINEER?Engineers are people who make things work. The work and ideas of engineers make

achievements possible. They put power andmaterials to work. Engineers have moved the  world into skyscrapers, high-speed cars, jetsand space vehicles. They make life interesting, comfortable, and fun. Computers, television, and satellites, all depend on engineers.

WHO SHOULD BE AN ENGINEER?Engineering is particularly suited to people  who are curious about the way things work,

how things are designed and made, and howscientific principles are used to produce usefulproducts and services.

WHAT DO ENGINEERS WORK AS?Due to the large number of disciplines of engineering, there is an endless number of companies and types of

work that engineers can become involved with. However, most engineers will be involved in working  with technology, problem solving and working inteams on project-driven activities. Engineers and arealways in demand, and Engineers skills are constantly enhanced and improved as their careers progress.

IS ENGINEERING SUITED FOR

WOMEN?Engineering is not a gender-specific careerchoice, and the number of female engineers is

increasing, although there is still a higherpercentage of male than female engineers ingeneral. Engineering can offer women adynamic people oriented working environment with plenty of excitement.

WHO MAKES A GOOD ENGINEER? A  good engineer is someone  who is comfortable  with mathematics and has a good understanding

of  the physical sciences.  A n engineer needs to develop innovative design capabilities both in a technical and creative sense. Good engineers are motivated and fascinated by  technology  and have

communication skills, enabling them to impart these ideas and enthusiasm both to other engineers in their daily   work and also to the customer.

I AM UNCERTAIN WHICH CAREER TO

CHOOSE. WILL ENGINEERING NARROW

MY OPTIONS IN THE FUTURE?Quite the opposite an engineering qualification offers  you great flexibility. The

skills and knowledge taught during an engineering course are highly  transferable and a  wide range of  options become available both  within the engineering profession and outside it (for example in business and finance).
