EU’GO experimentations

Terra d’orto - Casa S. Rosa

Evaluation tool in

Horticultural therapy

The first year of EU’GO project was dedicated to the

discovery of other national and European realities and to

the exchange of ideas. During the second year gardeners

that participated to the Study Visits will implement in

their urban garden a Good Practice that they observed in

another country. A reflection activity on their learning

process and acquisition of competences will take place,

so in the end will contribute to the creation of tools used

in the e-learning webpage , in order to give the opportu-

nity to other gardeners to continue experimenting and

learning!

Giovanna Lenzo works as therapeutic educator with the garden since 2006. During SV2 in UK she visited the “Horticultural Healing project” a garden that welcomes disadvantaged people with brain injuries.

In UK the Horticultural Therapy is recognized as thera-peutic tool from the National Health Service and Gio-vanna exchanged her experience with Deb, responsi-ble of the Garden in order to improve her work in It-aly, aiming to strength the recognition of this practice

During Study Visit 3 in Rome, Giovanna and Terra d’Orto staff welcomed the group of European gardeners. She shared with the European gardeners her work and col-lected suggestions and addice from the group and from those work in the same field.

Evaluation tool in

Horticultural therapy

The start of a new project in their garden is the field of the experimentation. From April to June she will evaluate the efficacy of the Horticultural therapy following a group of youngsters suffered from mentally diseases.

The horticultural activity will be evaluated looking at three characteristics:

Horticultural therapy as rehabilitation tool Horticultural therapy as vocational training Users’ satisfaction of the Horticultural

activities

Together with CEMEA’s responsible, the reflection on the evaluation tools brought her to develop the pre-existing tool she used in their work by taking inspiration from the ones used by Deb. Contributions came also from RJSM about tool for training in Horticultural Therapy.

They started to exchange mail and their evalua-tion tools, present their work practices and give advices to each other. Pro-activism, curiosity and willingness to personal and professional de-velopment are the key elements and wishes of Giovanna’s experimentation.
