Prophecy In Many Aspects Of Jesus’ Life

Psalm 110:1 – “The Lord says to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand, until I make Thine enemies a footstool for Thy feet.”

Jesus known as Lord throughout New Testament.

Known As Immanuel

Isaiah 7:14 -- Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, a virgin will be with child and bear a son, and she will call His name Immanuel.

Matthew 1:23 – an angel appears to Joseph in a vision and relates this passage to the child to be born to Mary.

Zeal For His Father’s House

Psalm 69:9 – “For zeal for Your house has consumed me, and the reproaches of those who reproach You have fallen on me.”

John 2:15-17 – Jesus made a scourge of cords and drove money changers out of the temple.

Ministry To Begin In Galilee

Isaiah 9:1 -- But there will be no more gloom for her who was in anguish; in earlier times He treated the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali with contempt, but later on He shall make it glorious, by the way of the sea, on the other side of Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles.

Bulk of Jesus’ ministry in Galilee.

A Ministry Of Healing• Isaiah 35:5-6 --Then the eyes of

the blind will be opened and the ears of the deaf will be unstopped. Then the lame will leap like a deer, And the tongue of the mute will shout for joy.

• Matthew 9:35 -- Jesus was going through all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and every kind of sickness.

Teaching In Parables

• Psalm 78:2 --I will open my mouth in a parable; I will utter dark sayings of old….

• Matthew 13:34 – All these things Jesus spoke to the crowds in parables, and He did not speak to them without a parable.

Enter Jerusalem On A Donkey

• Zechariah 9:9 --Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout in triumph, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, your king is coming to you; He is just and endowed with salvation, Humble, and mounted on a donkey, Even on a colt, the foal of a donkey.

• Luke 19:33-35 --As they were untying the colt, its owners said to them, “Why are you untying the colt?” They said, “The Lord has need of it.” They brought it to Jesus, and they threw their coats on the colt and put Jesus on it.

Betrayed By A Friend• Psalm 41:9 --

Even my close friend in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.

• Betrayed by Judas Iscariot, one of His apostles.

Price Of Betrayal• Zechariah 11:12 --I said

to them, “If it is good in your sight, give me my wages; but if not, never mind!” So they weighed out thirty shekels of silver as my wages.

• Judas betrayed Jesus for 30 pieces of silver – Matthew 26:15

Silver Thrown Into Temple

• Zechariah 11:13 --Then the LORD said to me, “Throw it to the potter, that magnificent price at which I was valued by them.” So I took the thirty shekels of silver and threw them to the potter in the house of the LORD.

• Judas threw the money into the temple. Used to buy the potter’s field.

Abandoned By Disciples

• Zechariah 13:7 –Awake, O sword, against My Shepherd, And against the man, My Associate,”Declares the LORD of hosts. “Strike the Shepherd that the sheep may be scattered;And I will turn My hand against the little ones.”

• At His arrest His disciples fled – Mark 14:50

A Preview…

• Some of the most amazing prophesies had to do with His crucifixion and resurrection.

• These we will consider next week.

How Could These Things Be?

•  Each of these prophesies was made hundreds and more years before the birth of Jesus.

• How could each of them, however unusual or even obscure, find their fulfillment in one man? Unless He was God’s Messiah.
