Anadarko Activity in the Marcellus Shale
The Marcellus Shale is among the largest shale plays in the U.S. and
is estimated to hold the second-largest deposit of natural gas in the
world. Anadarko currently produces more than 380 million cubic
feet of natural gas per day from the Marcellus Shale – enough to
fuel the daily heating and cooling needs of more than 2 million
average American homes.
In 2015, Anadarko continued to expand its gathering system in
Lycoming and Bradford counties and constructed 42 miles of
new pipeline. The company commissioned three compressor

Enhancing Safety & Preserving the Environment Anadarko is continuing to safely and responsibly develop vital natural
gas resources from the Marcellus Shale through industry-leading
practices and innovative technologies.
• Water Management: We have developed and implemented
water-management strategies tailored to local geology and
environmental conditions to protect and conserve water resources.
Best practices include water transportation through pipelines and
water-fi ltration and recycling for reuse in future operations.
• Road Maintenance: Our commitment to public safety extends to
the improvement and maintenance of Pennsylvania roadways in
our operating areas. Since 2006, Anadarko and its partners have
invested more than $90 million to upgrade more than 370 miles of
private, state-route, state forest and township roads and enhance
driver awareness in north-central Pennsylvania.
• Wildlife Partnerships: We actively partner with public and private
landowners and area organizations to protect native species and
enhance wildlife habitat in north-central Pennsylvania. In 2016,
Anadarko was presented with the Energy for Wildlife National
Achievement Award for wildlife conservation for its commitment to
providing safe and reliable energy, while striving to improve habitat
for wildlife.

We are committed to being a leading exploration and production
company, and we’re equally committed to being an integral part
of the communities where we operate, through volunteerism
and charitable giving. Additionally, Anadarko is proud to share its
operating story through extensive public-engagement opportunities
and fi eld tours.
• Anadarko actively supports and shares the Susquehanna Greenway
Partnership’s goals for a landscape of walking and biking trails, river
access points, unique river towns, working farms and conserved
land that stretches over 500-miles along the Susquehanna River.
In conjunction with Lock Haven University, Anadarko donated
professional mapping services and private match funding for The
River Towns Interactive Water Trail Mapping Project to produce an
interactive web-based informational map of portions of the West
Branch of the Susquehanna River.
• We collaborated with 12 private land clubs and 12 non-
governmental organizations to host a Networking for the
Environment event. This collaboration focuses on promoting
a broad landscape view of responsible land management,
conservation and best-management practices throughout the
region.

• National Wild Turkey Federation for wildlife habitat enhancement

Appalachian Shale Recommended Practices Group (ASRPG) Anadarko is a leader among a consortium of the region’s largest producers in creating a set of
Recommended Standards and Practices for Exploration and Production of Natural Gas and Oil from
Appalachian Shales. In addition, Anadarko publicly shares the ingredients of its hydraulic fracturing
applications via the online resource FracFocus.org.
