It’s hard to believe we’re already back in
the Holiday Season again, but here we are. Be sure
to check this month’s calendar because some
regular events & meetings have been changed due
to Thanksgiving.
The Cribbage Tournament is going well and at this point (halfway) it’s still
anyone’s to win. We have a lot of fun on Wednesday nights so come on
down and join us. You don’t have to be a participant to have a good time, so
give it a shot. We’re also open to having other types of tournaments &
competitions, so if you have any suggestions, let us know. We’re open to
new ideas, so if there is something you’d like to try, let’s talk about it.
Our Steak Dinner fundraiser was a great success. We served over 60 steaks
with many volunteers making it all happen. There are too many to name
and I’m sure I’d leave someone out, so I’ll just say thanks to everyone who
helped and also to everyone who came for the meal.
As in the past, the Lodge will be having dinner on Thanksgiving Day. The
Lodge will provide the meal and we’re asking for appropriate side dishes
from our members. There’ll be no charge and we’ll probably eat around
3:00—4:00 in the afternoon. Holidays in particular are times for families to
be together. If you don’t have other plans, join your Lodge family that day.
Our next cook-off will be on Nov 7th with judging at about 4:00 pm. In
response to popular demand, this will be a spaghetti competition. For this
contest, the Lodge will furnish and cook the pasta and salad. The entrants
will only need to prepare their sauce. Some tell me that since we’re doing
that, it’s actually a “Spaghetti Sauce Cook-off”, so feel free to call it
whatever you want. I also know that some people consider their pasta to be
an important component of their spaghetti, so if you want, you can also
make your own. It’s up to you. As usual, cash prizes will be awarded for 1st,
2nd, and 3rd place. Also, as usual, no public bribing of the judges will be
allowed. Just sayin……
If you enjoy your Lodge, tell your friends about it and invite them to join. If
you have ideas for improvements, tell us. The Lodge belongs to all of us and
it will be what we make it.
I look forward to seeing you around the Lodge.
Fraternally,
Larry

W. O. T. M. CHAPTER #2150
As you all know I like butterflies. I read this little article the other day
and I had never heard this before about the butterfly. Seems like there’s just no
end to the things we can learn from the life of this little insect. There are many
applications for this little piece of inspiration. Hope this gives you pause for
thought, as it did me.
THE LESSON OF THE COCOON
A man found a cocoon of a butterfly.
One day a small opening appeared and he sat and watched the butterfly for sev-
eral hours as it struggled to force its body through that little hole. Then it seemed
to stop making any progress. It appeared as if it had gotten as far as it could and it
could go no further. So the man decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair of
scissors and snipped off the remaining bit of the cocoon. The butterfly then
emerged easily. But it had a swollen body and small, shriveled wings.
The man continued to watch the butterfly because he expected that, at any mo-
ment, the wings would enlarge and expand to be able to support the body, which
would contract in time. Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the rest of
its life crawling around with a swollen body and shriveled wings. It never was able
to fly.
What the man, in his kindness and haste, did not understand was that the re-
stricting cocoon and the struggle required for the butterfly to get through the tiny
opening were God's way of forcing fluid from the body of the butterfly into its
wings so that it would be ready for flight once it achieved its freedom from the
cocoon.
Sometimes struggles are exactly what we need in our life. If God allowed us to
go through our life without any obstacles, it would cripple us. We would not be as
strong as what we could have been; we could never fly. ~ Source Unknown
~
Two truths struck me as I read this. First, we need to look at our struggles as op-
portunities to grow and secondly, we need to make sure “in our kindness and
haste” that we are actually helping someone else and not hindering their growth.
Just a little food for thought.
Hope this month brings you some good times with your family and
friends,
Shelah

PLANNED ACTIVITIES
Hi Everybody, It’s November,
I want to talk about October before I get into the
Nov. activities. We had a very busy Oct. and it
was full of activity for both the LOOM and WOTM
with great participation from everybody.
The pride we take in our little Lodge is as good as it gets. We had many
guests from other Lodges in Oct. I did not get to talk to all of them but I
did talk to some and they were saying that this has been one of the Friend-
liest lodges they have been in. They complimented us on how they were
greeted and treated during their visit with us. We are doing things right
and that is what it takes to make our Lodge Shine, Congratulations and
keep up the great work.
We are starting November 1st out with a time change so don’t forget to
turn back the clocks then remember to come down to the Lodge on every
Sunday for breakfast.
Mondays we will have our King of Clubs drawings along with Monday
Night Football with something to eat.
Tuesday the 3rd is ELECTION DAY get out and VOTE. All the meetings
remain the same for the LOOM and the Legion.
Cribbage every Wednesday with the Grand Finale on the 25th.
The WOTM have some changes because of Thanksgiving so be sure to
check the calendar. Thanksgiving we will be having a traditional dinner
and we are asking you for a dessert or a veggie or just something that we
can enjoy with our dinner and give thanks for.
There will be a Dinner every Friday served by the LOOM and WOTM
with the new member ORIENTATION starting about 6pm.
Saturday the 7th Spaghetti [sauce] cook- off to be judged at 4pm. The
lodge will supply spaghetti noodles and some of the other fixens.
The Blue and Gold will be serving dinner on the 14th with Karaoke to
follow. The WOTM are having Soup and Salad along with a 50/50
drawing on the on the 21st. Moose Legion Dinner on the 28th.
This is from all of us to our Members both LOOM and WOTM who
helped make our Convention Fundraiser a success on the 24th
. Thank you
everybody.
Fraternally, Dave

COMMUNITY SERVICE REPORT
Well, it’s that time of year again. The barrels for
food and clothing donations are now in the lodge and
we are asking for your help again. Any donations or
non-perishable food and any good clothes, jackets or
sweaters would be greatly appreciated by the food
bank and the Moose Lodge.
In the past we have done a great job supporting this
community service event, and we are looking for-
ward to another great year. All you efforts will be
greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!

November 14th we will be electing new officers for our B&G officers and
some other very important business will be conducted. This is probably
our most important meeting of the year , please plan to attend. We will
be serving a dinner after the meeting with Karaoke and dancing to follow.
As I do every month I am begging for a dessert from the B&G wives or
anybody who would like to bring dessert. It is appreciated.
What a great year we have had for our little club and I am looking
forward to the new ideas of the new Chairman.
Thanks to all, Dave

THIS MONTH’S THANK
YOU PAGE
A Big Thank You:
Bobbi and I would like to give a big thank you
to the members of the Fernley Moose Lodge
for helping with my special day. With the
help of Mac, Larry, the WOTM, LOOM and Caribous, it was
a fantastic and memorable day. I wish I could name names,
but there were too many to mention. For the WOTM and
LOOM, all the preparing of food, set up and teardown of the
Senior Center and cleanup was great. To the Caribous for
their use of the portable bar and port - a- potties was very
much appreciated. I can’t forget the Blue and Gold for the
cake and Jim C for all the pictures he took. Thank you to all.
