Homeless Veterans

Today in the United States of America…

there are more than

22 Million Veterans.

Since Operation Enduring Freedom More than 1.6 million brave men and

woman have served in Iraq, Afghanistan, and surrounding areas

Half had repeated deployment

Of the soldiers that make it home to their families most are younger than 35 years old

89% received honorable discharge

70% suffer from substance abuse problems

45% suffer from mental illness

1 in 3 are

HOMELESS Veterans

Since Operation Enduring Freedom we have welcomed more than 36,000

wounded soldiers back home

According to Department of Veterans Affairs there are 49,425 veterans with newly diagnosed

post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

ON ANY GIVEN NIGHT MORE THAN

200,000 VETERANS ARE LIVING:

IN SHELTERS TRANSITIONAL HOUSING CARS And on the STREETS

Many veterans do not use VA services

“As long as there are veterans or veteran family members searching for shelter on the streets...we have failed in our

duty to honor the commitment of the brave men and women who chose to serve.”

Barack Obama

This year, the VA will spend $3.2 billion to prevent and reduce homelessness among veterans.

$500 million going to homeless programs and $2.5 billion to medical services.

In March of 2011, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce launched a new program:

Hiring Our Heroes

a nationwide initiative to help veterans and military spouses find meaningful employment.

They fought for us..

They need shelter
