Large Research Infrastructures: CDTI is responsible for the achievement of an

adequate level of industrial and technological return in Spain

• Spain through Ministry of Science contributes to 14 Large Research Infrastructures

• CDTI focused its work in those with a higher budget (CERN, ESRF, ILL, ESO, FAIR y

XFEL) as well as ITER (UE) where Spain is the third country in industrial return

• Currently, this activity represents close to 100 M€ annual industrial high tech

activities

Dual programmes : Support to the development of technology for dual

projects in coordination with national and European actors

• New strategic line of activity at CDTI

• To support R&D&I activities at national, European and eventually international

(non EU level)

• Foreseen funding contribution to EDF using CDTI financial tools

Why Dual Technologies at CDTI

New ambitious Defence Programmes demand

major efforts in breakthrough and disruptive (dual

use) technologies to be also used in civil

commercial markets

KET from civil sectors find great potential to be

Need to involve CDTI as national innovation agency in one of the major

current drivers for innovation: defence and security

31

KET from civil sectors find great potential to be

transferred to Security and Defence

Civil and Defence public strategies strongly related

for high tech key sectors (i.e. aerospace and naval)

In order to address the market properly, CDTI reinforces

cooperation with the Ministry of Defense

CDTI cooperation with the Ministry of Defense

– Coordination/Cooperation at National level of R&D&I funding CDTI provides

Already a strong cooperation on going in strategic programmes:

Mainly aerospace sectorT

Ministry of Defence & Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, have

signed an agreement, involving CDTI and the Spanish Research Agency

– Coordination/Cooperation at National level of R&D&I funding. CDTI provides

several funding options (NEW CDTI INSTRUMENT ALREADY approved) to support

industries. Info exchange on projects and complementary actions.

– Support at EU level. CDTI will support Defence Ministry for EDF and will favour

synergies with other programmes. High synergies with EU Framework Programmes,

(presently Horizon 2020), Space EU Programmes, ESA and other international

initiatives .

– Multilateral Programmes. CDTI contribution to key programmes on a case by case

basis
