ORIGIN- Prominent ball-shaped structure

on proximal end of bone

ATTACHMENT/S - Articulates with Acetabulum of

hip bone

FOVEA CAPITIS(FEMUR BONE)

ANTERIOR MARKINGS

ORIGIN- Small depression in head

ATTACHMENT/S - Round (teres) Ligament

FEMUR NECK(FEMUR BONE)

ANTERIOR MARKINGS

ORIGIN- Region of bone that connects

head with shaft

GREATER TROCHANTER(FEMUR BONE)

ANTERIOR MARKINGS

ORIGIN- Large rounded projection located

lateral to neck & superior to shaft

ATTACHMENT/S - Gluteus Medius- Gluteus Minimus- Piriformis Muscle- Obturator Internus Muscle

(medial surface)

LESSER TROCHANTER(FEMUR BONE)

ANTERIOR MARKINGS

ORIGIN- Small prominence on medial side

of bone just inferior to neck

ATTATCHMENT/S- Psoas Major Muscle- Iliacus Muscle

INTERTROCHANTRIC LINE(FEMUR BONE)

ANTERIOR MARKINGS

ORIGIN- Slightly elevated ridge that runs

along interior surface from Greater Trochanter to Lesser Trochanter

ATTATCHMENTS/S- Vastus Medialis Muscle (Distal

part)

MEDIAL CONDYLE(FEMUR BONE)

ANTERIOR MARKINGS

ORIGIN- Large rounded surface at distal

end of bone on medial side- Articulates with medial condyle of

tibia

ATTATCHMENTS/S- Gastrocnemius Muscle

MEDIAL EPICONDYLE(FEMUR BONE)

ANTERIOR MARKINGS

ORIGIN- Prominent medial protrusion

superior to medial condyle

ATTATCHMENTS/S- Tibial (medial) Collateral ligament

ADDUCTOR TUBERCLE(FEMUR BONE)

ANTERIOR MARKINGS

ORIGIN- Small elevation on superior

surface of medial condyle

ATTATCHMENTS/S- Adductor Magnus Muscle

LATERAL CONDYLE(FEMUR BONE)

ANTERIOR MARKINGS

ORIGIN- Large rounded surface located at

distal end of the bone on lateral side

- Serves as region of articulation with lateral condyle of tibia

ATTATCHMENTS/S- Gastrocnemius Muscle- Plantaris Muscle (over lateral

condyle)

LATERAL EPICONDYLE(FEMUR BONE)

ANTERIOR MARKINGS

ORIGIN- Small lateral protrusion superior

to lateral condyle

ATTATCHMENTS/S- Fibular (lateral) Collateral

Ligament- Popliteus Muscle

PATELLLAR SURFACE(FEMUR BONE)

POSTERIOR MARKINGS

ORIGIN- Smooth surface covers anterior

portion of condyles

ATTATCHMENTS/S- Patella

INTERTROCHANTERIC CREST(FEMUR BONE)

POSTERIOR MARKINGS

ORIGIN- Prominent ridge that runs along

posterior surface of bone from greater trochanter to lesser trochanter

ATTATCHMENTS/S- Quadratus Femoris Muscle

LINEA ASPERA(FEMUR BONE)

POSTERIOR MARKINGS

ORIGIN- Vertical ridge that runs along

midline of posterior surface- Medial & lateral lips serve as

attachment points

ATTATCHMENTS/S- Short head of Biceps Femoris- Adductor Brevis- Adductor Longus- Adductor Magnus

GLUTEAL TUBEROSITY(FEMUR BONE)

POSTERIOR MARKINGS

ORIGIN- Slight roughened elevation

superior to Linea Aspera

ATTATCHMENTS/S- Gluteus Maximus

INTERCONDYLAR FOSSA(FEMUR BONE)

POSTERIOR MARKINGS

ORIGIN- Large depression located between

medial & lateral condyles on posterior surface

ATTATCHMENTS/S- Articulates with Intercondylar

eminence of tibia-

INTERCONDYLAR EMINANCE(TIBIA & FIBULA BONES)

ANTERIOR MARKINGS

ORIGIN- Small elevations positioned

between medial & lateral condyles

ATTATCHMENTS/S- Posterior & anterior depressions

serve as attachment points for Posterior & Anterior Cruciate Ligaments

- & central tips of medial & lateral Menisci

TIBIAL TUBEROSITY (TIBIA & FIBULA BONES)

ANTERIOR MARKINGS

ORIGIN- Raised roughened area inferior to

condyles on anterior surface

ATTATCHMENTS/S- Patellar Ligament (quadriceps

muscle group)

HEAD OF FIBULA(TIBIA & FIBULA BONES)

ANTERIOR MARKINGS

ORIGIN- Small knob like extension from

superior end of bone

ATTATCHMENTS/S- Articulates with Lateral Condyle

of Tibia at proximal Tibiofibular Joint

MEDIAL MALLEOLUS(TIBIA & FIBULA BONES)

ANTERIOR MARKINGS

ORIGIN- Prominent projection extending

downward from medial side of distal end of bone

- Articulates with Talus forming medial portion of ankle (mortise) joint

ATTATCHMENTS/S- Deltoid (medial collateral)

Ligament of ankle joint

LATERAL MALLEOLUS(TIBIA & FIBULA BONES)

ANTERIOR MARKINGS

ORIGIN- Pointed distal end of bone- Articulates with Talus forming

lateral portion of ankle (mortise) joint

ATTATCHMENTS/S- Attachment for 3 components of

lateral (collateral) ligament of ankle

DISTAL & PROXIMAL TIBIOFIBULAR JOINT

(TIBIA & FIBULA BONES) POSTERIOR MARKINGS
