Dear Ms. Burke:

Perhaps hilights newspaper is looking to find an Image editor with experience and a pas-sion for photography. If so, then please look over the resume attached to this letter for your review. With my strengths, experience and fresh ideas this will be of much value.

With two year of working with different types of cameras and also the experience of InDesign and Photoshop, I feel I have a better view on how to use cameras and capture and edit photos with the programs listed above. I am very time managed and also a quick learner to new programs. I help others to make every issue as spectacular as it should be.

I enjoy taking pictures, looking at others pictures, and giving options and creative ideas to others. As a quick learner I would be a well-valued, hard working individual that would cre-ate memorable pieces of work.

I have enclosed a resume for you to assess my qualifications and accomplishments, yet a personal interview would better show my knowledge and interests. Thank you for your time and consideration, and I hope to hear from you soon.

Respectfully yours,

Gabriella Fakhoury

o far my experience in journalism has taken me a long way from

where I started. After completing Journalism 1 and Mass Media 1 I have

become a better writer and conversationalist.

I got started in journalism when I was a freshman in 2009. I

signed up for journalism in 8th grade without the knowledge of

what it was, but I am so glad I got the chance to become a part of

it.

Unlike some, I had to work hard to get to where I am now. I use

to be a horrific writer with awful grammar. I had to work twice as

hard and look over my work many times for it to become written

well enough for an editor to read.

I have contributed a lot of time and energy to journalism to make

my work as creative as possible. Also I feel like I have helped to make

some of the newspaper staffers lives easier by helping with stories,

interviews, photos and layout designs.

My plans regarding journalism is to keep writing through out

my life and maybe go into newspaper in collage later on. For now I

would like to continue though out my high school experience.

hrough out this year I have learned so many things it is un-

believable. One important program I have learned to use is Photo-

shop. Using Photoshop I have learned to cob pictures, create busi-

ness cards, image size pictures and plenty more.

Also I have had the chance to use InDesign, which I have not

used since Journalism 1. In InDesign I have learned how to create a

DPS, lay out unique designs and also get to use my creativity to

make this portfolio.

Yet the most important thing that I have learned this year

was how to become a better writer. I have worked diligently to

improve where I started from and I am starting to see improve-

ments.

Another important skill I have learned is how to meet dead-

line. It can be stressful to complete all my work on time but I

have learned to start working on whatever it is I have to do ear-

lier and not to put it off till the last day.

Teamwork is another important part of writing especially

because I want to become part of the newspaper staff. Without

everyone’s stories there is no newspaper. It is a team effort, so in

Mass Media 1 I try to improve myself for newspaper by helping

other from their stories to their portfolios.

Mass Media 1 required extreme dedication and I plan to be

dedicated in everything I become involved with.

I will use these skills I have learned this year hopefully with

newspaper next year, in collage and my future job wherever it

may take me.

weet treat, sour service was my most significant piece be-

cause I am a better review writer then feature writer. I put a lot

of thought and feeling into this review.

This was an easy story to write because I feel strongly that

people should be treated respectfully and I wanted others to

know that the customer service was horrific.

This review evolved much from the first draft. The first draft

had many errors that were fixed. An example is the introduction

was not very drawing to the eye, so I had to change it to some-

thing more appealing. Another mistake was I tend to word things

in a weird way, so I had to change the format of some sentences.

I learned that sentences sound better short and sweet not

dragged on. Also, to put more feeling behind something that is all

about your opinions such as a review.

The main thing I like about this piece is it has feeling in it and

it changes others feelings. It shows that it is not a good place to

go to but does not tell one not to go there. It just persuades one

not to. Also I very much liked the photo to go along with the

story showing a sweet picture but a sour story.

eats by Kriyo is my piece that could sill use work. This was

my first feature story this year. Features are my weaker side of

writing. I took on this story to try to change it up a bit and not

only write reviews.

I learned that when interviewing come up with open-ended

questions to get a good response not just a yes or no. Also when

interviewing to get quotes with feeling to make the story from

more of a personal point of view, to get that human element.

I could further improve this story by interviewing him again

and ask more personal questions about himself as an artist.

If I had the chance to make those changes, this story prob-

ably would have been used from my reflection one.

Already interviewing him two times I should have gotten

better heart-warming quotes for the human element that is

missing in this story.

This is by far my picture I am most proud of. It has many good elements of composition. Some are filling the frame, depth of field with the post and the players. Also rule of thirds with both the players on the right side and not straight on.

The best element in this photo is filling the frame. Filling the frame in this also corresponds with the rule of thirds it is close enough yet not overbearing.

Another football photo, yet still one of my favorites. This photo also fills the frame and has the action of mid tackle.

This photo catches my eye because of the action and the snarling look on his face. It is close enough to see facial expressions also, which is hard to do in football due to the helmets.

I selected this photo because it has a crisp look. The lighting was perfect and the camera settings were set right.

Yet there is still action and movement needed in any good sports picture. This photo follows the rule of thirds because of the other player beside the Boone brave. Also the depth of field shows the other teammates in the background compared to the focused one.

The eye catcher in this photo is how clear the whole picture is, no blurry hands, feet or ball.

am an asset to the staff and hilights.org because the many

restaurant reviews. Also the feature story on a talented beat box-

er Kristian Velazquez.

Other valued pieces of work are all the photo galleries includ-

ing football, soccer, volleyball and school events.

Even with all of my stories and other work I have done the

most important thing is all of the help toward the hi-lights news-

paper staffers. After helping some of the staffers I have also

learned important skills that I can use next year for newspaper

including different skills on InDesign.

Once I commit to something I finish still working hard

through out the whole year or season no matter what the com-

mitment is for. After two years of journalism I have decided to

apply for a spot on staff. If picked to be on staff I will be very

committed to becoming a hardworking, helpful staffer,

ome problems I faced this year was my writing skills not yet

to their full potential. I did not have the writing techniques that I

learned in Journalism 1. Over the summer I needed to look back

over Journalism 1 notes to be prepared for the stories I had to

write.

I learned that since I am not as good as others at writing I

needed to work that much harder to be as good or even better.

Now after I write my stories I re-read them about three times

and also let my brother read them to make sure they are as

good as I can possibly write them.

I feel that in the beginning of the year I could have handled

the situation better. Yet, in the end I picked it up and now I know

to start off on a high note and stay there.

Romeo. Adopted after he was abandonded as a kitten.

t the mid-term I was asked, “What is my greatest weakness.”

Looking over my work anymore an easily see it was my writing

and grammar. Not only that but also how to use my time produc-

tily.

Since the beginning of the year I have worked hard to improve

my writing to stand next to others stories in publications.

I have had to re-read my stories more times then two hands

can count on to make sure I spelled everything correct and my

grammar is crisp.

DM17- Entertainment ReviewsI want this review to represent myself because it shows how far I have come from the be-ginning of freshman year to now, the end of sophomore year. This story took a lot of work to prefect, yet it is a very well written story and keeps the reader interested even for a restau-rant review.

DM16- General Feature This was my f irst and only feature written this year. The story is well written and worked very hard on. CSPA Gold Circle list because of the originality of the story and the good quotes.

DM29-Single Sports PhotograghThis photo has many great qualities includ-ing f illing the frame and also has a good depth of feild. Not only this but it also fol-lows rule of thirds. I want this piece to rep-resent me to show my creativity and the beauty, also shows my ability to capture photos like this.
