Get Paid To Write

Module 1:

How to create congruent goals that set

you up for success

Don’t worry about the HOW:

• How will I do it?

• How will I find the money for this?

HOW will you achieve the goal?

• How will this make a difference?

• How will it happen?

• How can I get them to agree to this?

HOW will you achieve the goal?

• Focus on the DOING

• Do something, anything

HOW will you achieve the goal?

Don’t ask HOW – Ask the 5 Ws:

• Who

• What

• When

• Where

• Why

HOW will you achieve the goal?

When you set a goal:

• You can only see what’s on your radar screen

• There is a multitude of activity taking place OFF your radar screen that you can’t possibly know about

When you set a goal:

• When you DO something, anything, this generates activity OFF your radar screen – things that you can’t possibly be aware of

• How do we generate activity OFF the radar screen?

When you set a goal:

Ask the 5 Ws:

• Who

• What

• When

• Where

• Why

Eg:

• Make a phone call

• Ask a question

• Attend a meeting/sit next to someone

• Write a blog

• Send an email

Making goals a reality…ask the 5 Ws:

• ONE thing can cause a disruption/change to what’s happening off your radar screen

Making goals a reality…ask the 5 Ws:

• Listen to your instinct/inner voice

• Don’t push it away/ignore it/deny it

How do you know what to ask/do?

Fear of being seen as too:

• Pushy• Aggressive• Inquisitive/nosy• Too… (insert your own fear)

If you think it/feel it…do it

How do you know what to ask/do?

Don’t worry about HOW you’re going to achieve your goal…

Just start…

• Without knowing how it will end

• Or what will happen

DO something, ANYTHING:

• Or what the outcome will be

• Without thinking ‘this is a waste of time’

Live in a state of not knowing

DO something, ANYTHING:

• “Better done than perfect”

• Don’t wait for things to be ‘perfect’ before you get started

• Simon Griffiths – prototype

Ready FIRE Aim:

• Just start…accept that you may not get it right, it may not succeed but you’ll learn more from completing it than by sitting on it waiting for it to be perfect

• You’ll never have all the pieces in place so don’t delay on this pretence

Ready FIRE Aim:

First things first:

• When starting to write, you don’t have an ‘anchor’ to hold onto – free floating

• Very uncomfortable feeling – get ok with that

Be okay with not knowing:

• With writing, each job is a clean sheet again - the ‘not knowing’ starts all over again - ‘knowing’ is an unattainable state so don’t waste time trying to achieve it

Be okay with not knowing:

We are all motivated by one of two impulses:

1. Move towards attaining a pleasurable feeling

2. Move away from feelings of pain

Pleasure vs pain - what motivates you?

• What gets you to take action?

• Use it to your advantage. Create scenarios that work for you

Pleasure vs pain - what motivates you?

• Moving towards pleasure:

“When it’s done I’ll treat myself to a lovely lunch/massage/outfit/holiday.”

Pleasure vs pain - what motivates you?

• Moving away from pain:

“If I don’t do it, I’ll won’t be able to pay the mortgage/rent.”

Pleasure vs Pain - what motivates you?

• Need to identify things that drain you of energy

• May not even be aware of them now but you will…in a minute

Get clear about daily activities…clear the decks…

• Have a HUGE impact on our ability to get things done, to see clearly, to attract prosperity, to make massive change

• What items did you tackle this month?

Get clear about daily activities…clear the decks…

• Top 3 things to do per day –use the sheet

• Do the hard things first –frees up energy

Prioritise:

• Plan the day the night before –frees up energy

• Don’t check emails first thing –do the first things first

Prioritise:

• Compartmentalise activities –phone calls, writing, emails, research etc.

Prioritise:
