Gospel Meditation Today, Jesus asks us, “Who do you say that I am?” Caesarea Philippi was named after Caesar who claimed the title “Son of God.” Peter’s confession that Jesus is the Christ (or Messiah), “the Son of the Living God” announces that Jesus, not Caesar, is Son of God. It was presumed that the Messiah was to remove Israel’s enemies and establish God’s kingdom on earth. This is not Jesus’ goal, but the world’s. It is here that Jesus begins his journey to Jerusalem and the Passion. What worldly powers do I need to reject in order to place complete confidence in Jesus?

Please consider helping in the religious education program
this year. Last year we educated over 500 students from kind-
er thru 12th grade and our numbers continue to grow each
year. That takes a lot of volunteers! If you don’t want to
teach, you can still help. We need classroom assistants and
outside safety monitors as well. Please prayerfully consider
helping our church community. This may offer you an op-
portunity to grow in your faith also. To sign up or get more
information please go by the RE volunteer table at the en-
trance of the church. “Jesus said, ‘Let the children come to
me, and do not prevent them; for the kingdom of heaven be-
longs to such as these.” Mathew 19:14 NABRE

21st Sunday in Ordinary Time
Jesus entrusted the keys of the Kingdom to Peter, who repre-
sents the whole church – all of us. What are those keys? In Mat-
thew’s Gospel they are the Beatitudes. This means that all of us
and each of us are called to be poor in spirit and meek, we are to
hunger and thirst for righteousness; we are to show mercy and be
peacemakers, we will mourn and we will experience persecution.
We are called to love as God loves – without counting the cost
and without exception. How will you witness to God’s love this
week? To whom are you called to show love?
usted llamado a demostrar amor?
Classes start soon! If you have not reg-
istered your children for religious edu-
cation classes, we will be taking regis-

rah Esquivel—Director of Religious Education (512)569-4039.
