Great Meadow Farm

Rehoboth, MA

We had the pleasure of visiting Great Meadow Farm in Rehoboth , MA

Local farms in Massachusetts and all of New England have been in decline for decades.

Globalization and decreasing land for housing are just two of the reasons

The cows approach you….

They just want to check you out….make sure you are “OK”

The water was dark due to the presence of iron ore

You can see this also at Ames State Park in Easton/Sharon, MAand Turner Pond in Walpole, MA

We didn’t see the beavers but we know where they live

A working water wheel provides power for the machine shop

Amazing to teach children that people used to make their own Tools and houseware items.

This is the metalsmith workshopPowered by the water wheel

Chickens and a Peacock……because….why not?

Nice to see the kids out running andexploring

Crossing the old bridge was fun

Explaining to the children why the fireplace was so big gave then a glimpse of history….they actually learned somethingon a weekend

They would light fire on this hill to send messages to Moose HillIn Sharon, MA.

There’s a plaque to prove it

Only a ½ hour away and a different world.Kids had fun, learned a little ,And got to hang out with our friend Sam and his family…well worth the trip.

At the end the kids were dirty, wet, tired……..and happy.
