Coexisting with Wildlife
How to set it out
Place your Green Bin at your curb on your collection day by 8:00 a.m.
Keep the lid closed and lock engaged.
Bring your bin inside after collection as soon as possible.
WEEKLY
Help keep wildlife wild, and communities safe. Just like your garbage can, keep your Green Bin indoors until the morning of collection day.• Keep Green Bin locked when at the curb so wildlife do not access
bins and become habituated in the community.• Clean your Green Bin (and garbage can) regularly.• Find more information: www.wildsafebc.com/live
By using your Green Bin you will help cut down the amount of food waste that ends up in our landfill. Food waste that is sent to the landfill takes up valuable space. While it rots in the landfill, it releases methane gas — a harmful greenhouse gas. Food waste collected from the Green Bin program wil be processed locally by Salish Soils into compost, a beneficial resource.

Green Waste Recycling
Green waste can be composted in your backyard or taken to one of the SCRD drop-off locations. For location information and what’s accepted, visit www.scrd.ca/composting. Did you know? Dumping green waste in our forests or beside the road is illegal—dumping can harm our waterways, spread invasive species, and attract wildlife.
Home Composting
Get started or brush up on home composting at www.scrd.ca/composting for tips on keeping your compost productive and safe from wildlife. Home composting helps your garden and the environment. For the materials you are not backyard composting, use your Green Bin.
Residential Recycling
The SCRD provides recycling through Recycle BC’s residential recycling program at three depots on the Sunshine Coast. For location information and what’s accepted visit www.scrd.ca/recycling-depots.
