WHO do you believe?A number of Enhlalakahle residents who
have had limited or no water over the pastweek, or our Umzinyathi officials who maintain the problem only begun on Mondaymorning.
Early on Monday, the Greytown Gazettereceived a letter from a desperate residentasking what has happened to the basic andessential service of ensuring that water isfreely available to everyone?
Residents said they had appealed to Umvoti and Umzinyathi Municipalities, but noaction had been taken to remedy the drasticsituation.
No announcements had been made in thetownship that there were water supply problems and no tankers had been around to provide much needed water.
On Monday morning, the Greytown Gazette managed to contact an Umzinyathi official who said a tanker would be sent in within two hours residents were gratefullyhaving their cup of tea for the day.

AS can be seen, Sammy is just soalert and cheerful he would be ahappy addition to his very ownnew family. About seven monthsSammy, neutered, fully vaccinat-ed and a male crossbreed, wasabandoned by aMuden storeown-er. He was confined to a tiny ce-ment courtyard with no shelter, food or water.
Fortunately, concerned neigh-bours contacted the Greytown SP-CA and the young man was res-cued - he really deserves a lovinghome of his own.

Umzinyathi has replied:“Thank you for your inquiry
dated 4 August, 2014. Umzinyat-hi District Municipality has beenexperiencingburstwaterpipes inthe Nhlalakahle Township area.
The bursts are caused by aginginfrastructure and entrapped airin thepipelines.Over thepast fewyears, the municipality has beenfixing leaks and replacing sec-tions of pipelines that have failed.
This has resulted in water sav-ings that have improved the ac-cess of water to the Greytowncommunities.
Unfortunately, the pressure inthe pipelines increased after theleaks were repaired which con-tributes to furtherbursts lateron.Unless all the pipes are replacedat the same time, the problemspersists.

KEEPgerms (and vampires) at bay!Not only veggies to eat but to cure
(but no guarantees):* Migraine: drape a cabbage leaf
round your head* Sunburn: a few slices of cool cu-
cumber will soothe* A bit farfetched - for rheuma-
tism - an artichoke into a glass ofwine. The article does not say
whether you should eat the arti-choke or just drink the wine.
* To keep germs (and vampires)at bay - eat garlic.
* Ancient Chinese beauty remedy- sleep with a facepack of rice flourand oil.
* Sootheachingmusclesandsun-burn-mix600mlcidervinegarwitha handful of aromatic herbs in yourbath.
* Another skin conditioner - goodoldmayonnaise. Ormix three partsrosewater with four parts glycer-ine.
* To cleanse the face: 120g al-mondoil, 30g lanolin and30gVase-line. Fats should be melted andstirred in then cooled.
* If you don't mind being sticky- mix a tablespoon honey, an eggyolk with a teaspoon of olive oil orwith a cupful of distilled water inwhich two handfuls of parsley havebeen boiled.Leave on the face for 15 minutes.Honey canalso beused for sunburn- mix a teaspoon with a beaten eggwhite andhalf a teaspoonwitch ha-zel. PETUNIAS,whichwere firstdiscov-ered in the mid-1700 to early-1800's in South America, actuallylooked nothing like the stunners oftoday.
Petunias originally had smallwhite and purple flowers, whichweredevelopedbybreeders inGer-many and England into the largecolourful blooms seen everywhereIt's hard to imagine, when lookingat a petunia, that it is actually partof the potato family!
Petunia grandiflora, as the namesuggests, has large flowers requir-ing regular deadheading to keepthebloomscomingandspreadsvig-orously so would be more suitablefor garden beds.
Petunia multiflora has bloomsabout half the size, but double thequantity of grandiflora and theygrow more into a moundlike struc-ture which makes them perfect forfilling indipsorasborders foragar-den bed.
Petuniamilliflorahaveverysmallflowers, but they are prolific in na-ture. It is a really neat, compact
plant which makes it a winner forcontainer planting, whether in awindowbox, hangingbasket orpot.
When it comes to planting any ofthese, make sure that your soildrainswell and theywill get to baskin the sun for most of the day.
It's not essential, but you will
reap the rewards from giving thema monthly feed. Petunias are notparticularly thirsty. Let the soil dryout a bit between watering.

Although teeing-off a whole hour late, the well organised four balls set off just af-ter nine andwith golfers all teeing off fromthe first tee, it meant that a long day layahead for the catering staff.Golferswerenot only split in amixed rangeof handicaps, but also different ages, withyoungsters playing against seniors andadults. As St Cathryn’s currently don’t haveany development golfers, we were happyto host all and it means that about 38 newgolfers now know about our course.
The format was individual stablefordand some technical prizes were also on of-fer, for nearest to pins, and longest driveon the tenth.

BONGANIMkhize is admiredbymany.This38 year old resident from Lindelani infor-mal settlement was born disabled, but in-stead of being dependant on others, he ishelping others.Whilst many whine and whingeabout minor aches and pains,Bongani gets onwith it to helpthe youth of the community.
He is a qualified basket-ball coach and is puttingthis special skill to use forthe good of his communi-ty by coaching basketball.Bongani is not getting paidfor doing this and in fact, friendsbroughthis story to theGreytown Gazette - not him.He often has to use his own limitedfunds to get players to tournaments held
in other towns. This is truly admirable ifone also takes into account that he cannotwalk and has to use his wheelchair to getto the field a few kilometres away wherepractices take place.
Why does Bongani do this?“To develop the children andkeep them from doing drugs.”
He is always cheerful, with a smile on hisface, showing such dedica-tion to his fellow humanbeings. We can all learnfrom him.Anyone who would like todonate anything to assist
Bongani and the children he isgiving hope to, please drop off
at theGreytownGazette for forward-ing to him.
