PROJECT: STUDENT RECREATION CENTER
FLOORING REPLACEMENT PELLISSIPPI STATE COMMUNITY COLLEGE
KNOXVILLE, KNOX COUNTY, TENNESSEE SBC No. 166/032-03-2019
CONTRACTOR QUESTIONS & ANSWERS:
Question #1: Requested clarification on the water fountain to be installed. Answer #1: The information in the specification for the needed information, section 22 47 13
2.1 A and B lists manufactures and requirements. Question #2: For the sports flooring, what is the performance standpoint requirements?
Answer #2: The products listed in the specification for the use of Basketball and volleyball
courts Question #3: There is concern about the paving and milling of the asphalt so close to the garage
doors and new fabric roof. Suggestion of saw-cutting instead of milling. Answers #3: We recommend that you coordinate with the paving sub for the best practice to
achieve the needed results to level the existing asphalt floor and install the new asphalt filled in area.
Question #4: Sheet A-101 – In lieu of 1”- 411D and 1” - B-M2 it was suggested that doing 2” of
411D would be more appropriate. Answer #4: 2” layer of 411D would be an acceptable alternative Question #5: Clarification on net post sleeves was requested. Answer #5: Yes, new volleyball post sleeves are needed for both new multipurpose courts as
indicated on the drawings and foundations will be needed as nessecary to install them properly. Philip, with PSCC, would like to keep the existing tennis court net post holes, if possible, for the 1st tennis court that will be removed and changed to a multipurpose court. Covers will be needed for these two holes that are flush with the new sports flooring since they will be in the new sports flooring court. Existing volleyball net post holes will be removed when wood flooring is removed.
Question #6: Is the 48’ wide multipurpose court dimension intentional? Answer #6: Yes Question #7: Sheet D-101 states that there is no pressure washing allowed on the tennis courts.
HURST‐ROSCHE, INC.
SBC No. 166/032-03-2019 QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS STUDENT RECREATION CENTER FLOORING REPLACEMENT PAGE 2
Answer #7: This text will be removed. Pressure washing is allowed. Question #8: Clarification requested on logo - There was no detail of what to figure – ie four
colors 12’ diameter or 24 letters 1’ tall one color. Or perhaps an allowance of $10,000 should be figured?
Answer #8: The center logo will be a round 12’ diameter 4 color logo, image below. The 4 sideline logos (approximately 150 square feet each) will most likely be “PELLISSIPPI STATE” in one color, letters in an athletic collegiate font possibly 1’ to 2’ tall, design and location to be finalized at a later date.
Question #9: I would highly recommend the use of a fiberglass membrane, similar to Tarkett’s Tarkolay, to be placed between the asphalt and the synthetic sports flooring on this project. It will assist with potential moisture concerns as well as assist in hiding any blemishes from the asphalt surface.
Without the membrane, we would not feel comfortable installing the specified sports flooring directly onto the asphalt substrate.
Answer #9: Yes, we recommend this product or a similar product according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. We want the flooring to be installed properly according to our existing conditions and asphalt subfloor.
SBC No. 166/032-03-2019 QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS STUDENT RECREATION CENTER FLOORING REPLACEMENT PAGE 3
Question #10: On the agenda, Item #12 lists Builders Risk and something called major demolition project insurance. The former is not applicable here since this is not new construction on a building and I have never heard of the latter. Can you comment?
Answer #10: Yes, all contractors will be required to obtain Builder’s Risk Insurance as mentioned in General Conditions Article 11. It is required for all General work and will apply for this project.
Major Demolition Project Insurance is not required for this project.
Question #11: I have gotten pricing on the water fountain. My supplier says over [ ]. Is there not a less expensive alternative?
Answer #11: Substitutions are allowed as long as it matches our requirements in the specification. The water fountain needs to be a pedestal type, have one bubbler, one bottle filler, non-refrigerated, non-filtered and be freeze resistant.
