HASEBIKES. Ideas that revolutionize mobility.
In 1994, we began building bikes for maximum fun, comfort,
and flexibility. All we had then was our vision for a new
kind of mobility, thousands of ideas for specialized bikes,
and a lot of idealism. HASE has since grown into a well-
established company, headquartered in the historic
buildings of Zeche Waltrop. And success has only fueled
our motivation. With the KLIMAX series, one of our mobil -
ity dreams has come true:
protecting our climate while
creating the perfect climate
for the cyclist. With cycling
fun instead of frustration,
and function instead of bells
and whistles. The quality
remains exceptional.

I N T R O
And this high level of quality is
also guaranteed by our long -
standing partner EFBe, the test
laboratory located in the new
HASE hall, right across from the
HASE headquarters. As before,
all of our bikes and trikes must
pass its technical tests. In addi -
tion to the laboratory, the new
building houses our show room,
welding shop, and a storage area –
we simply needed more space
for our mobility ideas and their
implementation. When you look
at the 2012 product port folio
from our now more than 40-
strong HASE team, you’ll under-
stand: our vision for a new mobil -
ity is quickly becoming reality.
With the KLIMAX 5K, we covered
a lot of ground in the realization
of this vision – and riders will
also be covering a lot of ground:
with the 28 mph (45 km/h) fast
e-bike, environmentally friendly
mobility is now even possible for
the long-distance commuter. The
new KLIMAX still offers the same
comfortable microclimate under
the Fairing – no changes there.
HASE has also been hard at work
developing fun and high-tech
features for its smallest riders:
the TRETS now offers even more
flexibility. The fun-machine for
young trikers and child’s trailer
with pedal-power is now avail -
able as a jogging stroller, making
the TRETS even sportier than
before – or as sporty as jogger
or inliner moms and dads want it
to be.
You see: Marec Hase’s team of
developers have had another
busy year! And what better place
to photograph the results of
their work than in a city that has
been known for years as a melt-
ing pot of creativity: Berlin. In
terms of modern mobility,
Germany’s capital may have a few
things to learn from some of the
smaller cities, but the atmos -
phere of change permeating this
urban area is practically
unrivalled. So we headed east,
where a conference on new
mobility was being held at the
former Tempelhof airport during
the week of our shooting – we
were in the best of company!
Airport grounds, Eastside
Gallery, Potsdamer Platz: the
HASE crew had lots of fun in the
Berlin air – and, judging by the
photos, so did the Berliners.
By the way: in view of this year’s
international successes, it seems
HASE’s innovative mobility
concepts are on the right track:
its KLIMAX 2K swept the
awards circuit, taking home the
2010 Eurobike Green Award,
then – hardly a pedal rotation
later – the 2011 IF Product
Design Award in Gold and the
Red Dot Award for product
design. Mighty impressive, eh?

EDITORIAL Green mobility with turbo fun
Does environmentally conscious mobility have to be boring?
Should comfort be reserved for SUV drivers? And are the
people who think about our common future party poopers?
Nonsense. We live in exciting times: our mobility has to
change, and the sooner the better. And all of us can have an
influence on the way things develop. Let’s do a good job.
Even the very first LEPUS trikes
built by Marec Hase back in 1994
offered more than just practical
mobility: fun and comfort have
always been essentials for HASE-
BIKES. This might be one reason
for the edge we seem to have
over other companies working
on concepts for future mobility.
In an age when the very auto
industry responsible for the many
problems of our transportation
society, such as traffic gridlock,
pollution, and climate change, is
monopolizing terms such as
“green mobility” for its pseudo-
solutions, like its tentative steps
toward the development of elec-
tric cars, we always visualize
mobility in connection with
riding fun, comfort, and good
health. As we all know: it’s time
we change the way we get
around – not simply by trading
one car for another. Much more
far-reaching measures are called
for. We don’t need new cars: we
need new concepts and much
more sustainability. One such
concept: for short and medium
distances, switching to vehicles
that can be manufactured with
much less CO2 emissions and
operated practically pollutant-
free. Vehicles that can be easily
expanded, combined, or modified
and fulfill a very important
require ment: they make climate
protection something that’s not
only for heroes, but also for pleas -
ure-seekers. After all, people
who choose environmentally
friendly mobility shouldn’t have
to suffer for it – neither from
poor weather nor from impracti-
cal solutions. They should be free
to leave the gas-guzzler in the
garage and enjoy independent
mobility, fun riding dynamics – a
standard HASE feature – and
optimal com fort in any weather.
A vehicle that can offer all this,
even for longer distances, needs
a drive that adds environmentally
friendly assistance, like the
KLIMAX series. And to illustrate
how cycling fun can translate into
environmental protection, we
just have to do the math: for the
production of an electric car,
approx. 25 metric tons of CO2
are produced; then, over the
vehicle’s lifetime, it will produce
another 30 to 40 metric tons of
CO2 – while the lifetime emissions
associated with today’s passenger
cars total a whopping 70 metric
tons of CO2. The KLIMAX 2K,
in comparison, will only produce
a good 0.5 metric tons of CO2 in
its lifetime, including manufac -
turing and power consumption.
The HASEBIKES KLIMAX
concept is a project in progress:
every year, we take a few more
steps toward an alternative
mobility for everyone. The next
generation, due out in 2012, is
the year-round-comfort trike for
long-distance commuters: the
KLIMAX 5K. With a 500 W e-
motor that can be switched on
and off by hand, this trike is more
than just a speedier version of
the 2K: with the 5K, Marec Hase
developed a three-wheeled con-
cept subject to mandatory regis-
tration, with the same vehicle
safety regula tions as a moped,
including lighting and brake
systems. To accomplish this,
HASE sought the partnership of
other companies with experience
in alternative mobility – like
Philips, who is contributing the
headlight system for the 5K.
And nowadays, mobility begins
earlier than ever: the new TRETS
can accommodate a baby seat.
The trike – with its new set of
wheels – or the ingenious kid-
powered trailer, can now trans -
form into a zippy jogger: with or
without Fairing. The best part:
our e-mobility and comfort-
climate concepts are now avail -
able as retrofit kits, for almost all
models. Fun flexibility, HASE style.

Everything under control: with
the KLIMAX 5K, bad weather is
just a sideshow, and long com -
mutes are joy rides, even in the
city. The zippy riding dynamics

KLIMAX | 5 K More pedal power in sun or shower!
The 5 in “KLIMAX 5K” stands for more power : with its 500 watts,
the new commuter e-bike from HASE can effortlessly reach its
max. 28 mph (45 km/h). The e-trike for long distances is a
completely new concept: and assistance is independent of pedal-
ing. But it’s still sensational fun to zoom from A to B in any
weather, CO2-free in a comfort climate.
Houston, we have … no problem
whatsoever!
Our 5K-pilot Karim feels right at
home in the traffic at Potsdamer
Platz. This public square earned
its reputation as a center for
development and change back
the 1920s – and again today: a
perfect backdrop for the 5K, as a
symbol of new mobility. With an
“Ick-bin-ein-Berliner” attitude,
HASE sales rep Karim swims
through the wide lanes in his 5K,
laid back and speedy in the flow
of traffic. The 5K offers a better
view from the cockpit than a
convertible, where the windshield
posts get in the way. And it can
zip off from the stoplight faster
than some roadsters: the hub
motor in the front wheel puts
out full power right from the
start, controlled by a twist-grip
throttle – independent of your
own pedal power. Although
maybe the roadsters were just
too busy gaping in awe.
The awe-struck faces also
appeared on the grounds of the
former Tempelhof Airport when
we demonstrated the Fairing:
getting into the KLIMAX Fairing
is almost as elegant as with a
Gullwing – just that the 5K
“doorway” is nowhere near as
narrow. Simply open the safety
catch, lift the Fairing, take a seat,
re-latch, finished. And a good
minute is all it takes to go from
summer look to waterproof:
remove the Fairing from the
compact case behind the seat,
click it into the mount, unfold it,
and snap the sides into place. If
drizzle turns to downpour, the
Poncho can be snapped into the
fairing in seconds. And with the
Poncho, it’s just as easy to get in
and out of the seat. The special
zipper with extended edges7
KLIMAX | 5 K
8
KLIMAX | 5 K ensures that the rider stays warm
and dry from the neck down.
Both the frame and the Fairing
can be adjusted to fit the pilot.
And speaking of frame: the
KLIMAX’s chassis comes from
the cornering-whiz KETTWIESEL.
Its cornering genes were put to
the test on the former runway,
even at higher speeds. After an
experience like that, the phrase
“almost as good as flying” may
have to be reconsidered – after
all, the center of gravity is low,
and additional stability is added
by the low-mounted battery. This
clever power pack even recharges
when braking: with a touch of
the left brake lever, the so-called
“recuperation” system kicks in,

saving you not only power; the
high-tech motor brake also
reduces brake wear. But there’s
nothing else “conservative” about
the ultra-powerful Tektro Auriga
Twin hydraulic disc brakes on the
rear wheels, supported by a large
Avid BB7 disc up front.
The KLIMAX’s passive safety
system is also state-of-the-art: its
headlight, specially developed by
Philips for e-bikes, lights up the
Berlin night. And in the back, a
combination taillight/brake light
shines from the license plate.
License plate? In Germany, e-bikes
with 500 W motors are subject
to the same licensing laws as
mopeds. For KLIMAX owners,
this means about 70 euros per
year for the license plate –
including insurance! The impres-
sive speed and a range of about
25 miles (40 km) (at 50% leg
power) make the 5K the perfect
power-trike for commutes and
daily use. Start the day enjoying
the fresh morning air, and use the
trip home to clear your head,
incorporating your exercise rou-
tine if you’re in the mood. The
5K is the perfect ride, even if
your commute is longer than
12 miles (20 km). After all, the
lockable battery is quick and easy
to remove, and the 11.25 ampere
hours of capacity are restored in
just 2.5 hours of charging.
A true joy ride, no matter what
the weather.9

options are only feasible if people
can use them comfortably in any
weather. Like our KLIMAX 2K,
which has already earned several
prestigious awards: including
the Eurobike Green Award, the
IF Product Design Award in
Gold, and the Red Dot Award
for product design.
Electric tailwind and dry legs!
Finally: climate protection for the climate protector! Snap on
the fairing for a rainy ride to work; take it off again for the
ride home under blue skies. In the KLIMAX 2K, you can
master even hilly stretches sweat-free, thanks to its electric
tailwind. The KLIMAX takes cycling fun to a new dimension.
Riding fun, staying-dry fun, and CO2-reducing fun.

The concept: in bad weather, a
minute is all it takes to mount
the Fairing, unfold it, and hop
back into the dry cockpit. In
heavy rain and snow, there’s the
separate Rain Poncho. And from
below, the new splashguards keep
your pant legs dry – a “hand-me-
down” from big brother 5K. The
difference: little brother 2K is a
“pedelec”, a synthesis of human-
and machine-powered mobility.
The almost 200 W-strong
Protanium motor in the front
wheel pushes along as soon as –
and as long as – you pedal, up to
15 mph (25 km/h). This means:
the 2K keeps its bicycle status
(in Germany) – and you keep fit,
with no overexertion.
At the medium assistance level, a
full charge will take you about
31 miles (50 km). And the harder
you pedal, the further you’ll get.
Empty tank? Fill ‘er up at any
power outlet in about 4 hours.
The bottom line: your exertion
is cut in half for the same speed
– and twice as much fun. And to
top it off, with its KETTWIESEL
genes, the 2K doubles as a
cornering machine with ultra-
stiff 6061 T6 aluminum frame
and all its advantages: riding fun
and a sophisticated ergonomic
design with an 18” (46 cm) seat
height. Not to forget the
dependable primary drive: the
9-speed Tiagra rear derailleur
and your legs.

PINO | A L L R O U N D Pinology: the science of dual mobility
Family taxi, team touring bike, luxury limo – the PINO ALLROUND is the
most flexible tandem under the cycling sun. This also applies to its
transportability: the exceptionally stiff aluminum frame with oversized
tubes can be easily disassembled for transport.
And into the trunk, train, or airplane it goes: After all, tandemists are not
known for staying close to home.
A small piece of metal – a huge
piece freedom: the tube joint,
specially developed by Marec
Hase, can be released quickly and
easily for separating the PINO
frame into two parts for trans -
port. With a few additional steps
(e.g., removing the seat with a
quick release lever) the PINO is
reduced to luggage size in no

time at all. Flexibility in transport,
flexibility in use. And even a free
choice of seating: maybe you pre-
fer the captain’s seat, with an
eagle’s eye view of the road and
full control of the ship. Or rather
the comfortable, mesh passenger
seat with adjustable backrest,
where you can pedal – or
occasionally not pedal – in ultra-
ergonomic recumbent style.
Thanks to a second freewheel in
the drivetrain, the stoker in the
front can also just rest her legs
on the pedals and watch the hori-
zon draw near. Under her seat,
the Spinner suspension fork guar-
antees a smooth ride, even when
the road turns rough. The PINO
was also designed for the age of
communication: thanks to the
unique positioning of the two
seats, the tandem team can
converse as casually as if they
were chatting side-by-side on a
sofa. And when your little one’s
in front, he’s even within reach
for special on-board services, like
helping him get that ice cream off
his chin. With the optional
Children’s Crankset, kids as small
as approx. 3’3” (1 m) can become
PINO pilots: Run the little one to
school, then right on to your
shopping errands.
No problem at all: because the
PINO can also be navigated solo.
Even through the narrow, cobble-
stone streets of Copenhagen’s
beautiful “old town”.13
Anything goes: Berlin is diverse
and colorful, sometimes even
decadent. A spirit that can be
contagious. Kirsten and Karim
want to get from the train
station to Lake Müggelsee with
the PINO TOUR, but this time,
not on it. What could be easier
than disassembling the PINO
frame into its 43 x12 x 31”14
PINO | TO U R Two on Tour
A two-part frame that can carry two on tour? The PINO TOUR
does it all. Robust enough for adventurous expeditions,
with enough carrying capacity for all your supplies, and yet the
epitome of ergonomic design. The multitalented tandem is
larger than life, except when it comes to pack size. Sometimes
two halves make a whole … lot of fun.
(110 x 30 x 80 cm) pack size and
renting a convertible? No sooner
said than done, and off they go.
Something for even Berliners to
stare at. At the lake, the two
halves are reassembled into an
ultra-strong tandem that can han-
dle a whopping 143 lbs (65 kg) of
luggage. And this capacity can be
used to the limit: with big
panniers in the back on the low-
mounted Tubus carrier, plus four
lowrider panniers on the HASE
Lowrider Rack under the
comfortable recumbent seat.
And, thanks to the low center of
gravity, this pack-master handles
even more smoothly when
loaded. Of course the ultra-stiff
frame, with its sophisticated tube
joint, is another reason why the
two are as happy zooming
around the curvy lake path as the
fish in the water beside them.
The suspension fork adds even
more comfort to the seat, and
the generous adjustability of all
handles and seats guarantees that
every rider will feel like their
PINO was custom built, just for
them. The powerful hydraulic
Avid disc brakes ensure that
Karim keeps the laws of physics
under control at all times. And
with the SON hub dynamo and
the premium lighting system from
Busch & Müller, the duo is not
only visible for others – they also
enjoy a brightly lit path on their
night excursions.

PINO | C U S TO M East Side Story
Wishes can come true. Even better when everything turns out just
the way we wanted. Like with the PINO CUSTOM for Rosa and
her little Hannah. It fits them like a glove: from comfort – “great
suspension!” – to electric drive – “I’m hardly pedaling!” – and gear
system – “you can go faster, Mama!” Now that’s CUSTOM.
As project manager for Berlin-
based bike agency Velokonzept,
Rosa Rausch is no stranger to e-
mobility. This is why Rosa and
daughter Hannah are also so
excited to be zooming through
Berlin on their customized PINO
CUSTOM for our photo shoot –
and also for fun. On board: the
Bionx electric-assist motor. It
17
contributes up to 250 watts of
power in the rear wheel, as long
as the two ladies pedal. The juice
comes from the little box in the
frame triangle: a lithium-manganese
battery with almost 10 ampere
hours of capacity. That’s plenty
for a day’s worth of shopping for
our pair. The motor switches off
at 15 mph (25 km/h) – which
means that, in Germany, the
e-PINO is still legally considered
a bicycle and doesn’t require
moped licensing. Although
Hannah has been known to drive
her mom to much higher speeds.
After all, it’s comfy in the
adjustable recumbent seat – and
the view from the front row can
also be quite electrifying!
One of the reasons why the two
had so much fun on their tour to
Berlin’s East Side Gallery is the
additional Children’s Crankset. It
can be quickly adjusted to the leg
length of young pilots. The front
rider can also take a break from
pedaling – the Stronglight crank
bearing has an integrated free -
wheel mechanism, and even
Hannah’s energy has its limits.
Rosa’s got it pretty good, too: the
handlebar – which can be adjust-
ed in all three dimensions – is
especially comfortable, and, with
a set of Avid’s powerful yet precise
hydraulic disc brakes, the duo is
in good hands. When Rosa hops
into a shop in Prenzlberg, little
Hannah can wait comfort ably in
her seat: the Double Kickstand
can handle a whopping 220 lbs
(100 kg).
And after helping her mom pedal
through the city, an ice cream
really hits the spot. For Papa’s
long legs, the Children’s Crankset
can be dismounted lickety-split –
that is, if the girls ever let him
have a turn…

bar grips, the pilot can alter his
or her position as desired for
optimal comfort – without having
to adjust the handlebars.
SON Hub DynamoThe optimal light source for
tours or daily commutes: SON’s
specially designed hub dynamo
for 20-inch wheels. Light and
smooth-rolling, powerful and
completely reliable in all weather
conditions. The eco-power
outlet for the road.
Suspension Fork I: What pothole? Be it cobblestones or potholes:
The Spinner Grind Suspension
Fork irons out the bumps –
meaning even more comfort,
especially for the partner in the
front seat. But beware: the extra
comfort makes it even harder to
call it a day.
Suspension Seat PostComfort for the captain: the
finely tuned Suspension Seat Post
from Airwings lets the boss
cruise smoothly over the most
uneven surfaces. The “overseer”,
after all, should also have a
comfortable seat.
Fairing: Great climate for stokersYou can’t leave a hardworking co-
pilot out in the rain. A few clicks
and snaps is all it takes to mount
the Fairing to the frame, and
keep the rain or drizzle off the
stoker. Getting in and out of the
seat is just as easy as always, and
the stocker can even enjoy the
Fairing’s rearview mirror. No
more rain? Then the Fairing folds
away almost as easily as an
umbrella and fits nicely into the
handy Fairing Bag. Another
argument: Even the captain will
stay dryer …
Suspension Fork II: Comfort de Luxe Comfort tuning: the fork’s 80 mm
of travel make any tour feel like a
glide. The ultra-light aluminum
Suspension Fork from White
Brothers is air damped and can
be finely tuned to the weight of
the riders.
Tubus Luggage RackNarrow, strong, lower lying: the
chromoly steel rack is ultra-stable
and can carry an impressive 88 lbs
(40kg) of luggage. The low
positioning of the rack stays
ensures a low center of gravity –
which means optimal stability and
handling, even when fully loaded.

easily mounted to the front boom

Double KickstandDeveloped by HASE, loved by
touring cyclists everywhere. The
bicycle is braced for packing and
unpacking and absolutely
untippable, even when the front
passenger has the fidgets. Can
hold a total of 220 lbs (100 kg),
including “lively loads”.
Lowrider RackThe Lowrider Rack under the
recumbent seat carries two small
panniers on each side – which,
with the rear wheel rack, brings
the total capacity to 6 panniers!
And the low position of the load
between the axles means easy
handling. Nothing could be safer!
Power plus for Pinoists:Bionx electric assistThe Bionx kit turns your PINO
into a pedelec: 250 watts push
along when the team is pedaling
– at least up to the motor’s max-
imum speed of 15 mph (25 km/h),
and one charge will take you up
to 37 miles (60 km). You decide
how much assistance is provided.19
Rohloff Speedhub:A true paradigm shift14 speeds in one high-tech shell:
the Rohloff is indisputably the
best hub on the market: shifts

tant – always in noble black for
the HASE PINO.
Stefan Rogge is actually a photog-
rapher and comes from the Ruhr
region. And actually he never
rides a trike. For our shooting,
though, he took a spin on the
KETTWIESEL ALLROUND –
thanks to the quick-adjust frame,
he was in the pedals in a flash –
and zipping through the east of
Berlin. Past City Hall, down Karl-20
In the center of the action
One wheel in front, two behind, you in the middle – and fun
all around: the riding dynamics on the KETTWIESEL
ALLROUND make you want to zoom off and around the
next hair-pin turn. But there’s also way more relaxation
than on a two-wheeler : at the traffic light, your feet can rest
on the pedals, and you, on the comfy mesh seat.

Marx-Allee, and on and on. The
two make a good couple. He’s
also an all-rounder, doubling as a
weekend DJ in his adopted home,
Berlin. But wieseling can also be
a source of joy. No wonder: a
mere 18 inches (46 cm) below him,
the asphalt whizzes past. The low
center of gravity and the seat
position between the rear wheels
add up to perfect road-holding;
the low weight and race-bike
gear system from Shimano make
for strong acceleration, and the
KETTWIESEL geometry trans -
lates into adrenaline-pumping
corners. You can adjust the angle
and firmness of the mesh seat to
suite your style. And with the
cornering master, you can also
enjoy a leisurely cruise and take
in the pulsating city around you.
After all, the trike is designed for
intuitive riding: the rider’s hands
fall naturally onto the infinitely
adjustable under-seat handlebars,
gears are shifted just as naturally
with a twist shifter, and the Avid
disc-brake system on the rear
wheels stops the action with
force, whenever necessary. It
also has a parking-brake
mechanism – nobody wants their
Wiesel to run off without them.
Speaking of running off: the
ALLROUND even earns full
marks in transport. With the
Quickstick hubs by Marec Hase,
the rear wheels can be popped
off in a jiffy. Even smaller? In a
few more steps, any KETTWIESEL
can be made small enough for a
compact car.
Even Stefan’s doubts – “How is
this delta thing supposed to fit
into the basement compartment
of my East-Berlin, pre-fab apart -
ment house?” – were totally
dispelled: parked on end, it takes
up less space than a normal bike. 21

Leaning back. Enjoying the panorama. Resting in your seat. Relaxation in
your neck and shoulders. Long-distance adrenalin. Fully loaded with
no wobble. Downhill with gusto … a small glossary of key phrases on the

adding your own terms in no time at all – probably after the very first ride.
And you’ll experience a whole new dimension of touring.
Trikes are transport wizards –

My style of Wiesel
“Three wheels – and leave the rest to me!” Be it tie or trike:
we need certain things to convey our style. The right look,
the optimal function. After all, individuality is an art in itself.
No problem, with the KETTWIESEL CUSTOM.
The inhabitants of Copenhagen’s trendy neighborhood
Christiania agree.
Along the colorful streets, where
punks once squat abandoned
houses and art is now a part of
everyday life, HASE design engi-
neer Dirk van Rijn test-rode the
“lifestyle factor” of the KETT -

coating is a given. HASE’s specially
designed Differential spins under
the seat, where the stiff tubing
arches over the sprocket. Traction
on any terrain. You just never
know where the road may take
you. And if you’re a wheelie fan,
you gotta have a diff: with a cool
set of wheels, there’s no better
way to show joy – or just show
off, as Dirk dutifully demonstrat-
ed on the bike-friendly streets of
Christiania. What goes up must
come down: simply apply the
brakes. With Avid Elixir 3
hydraulic two-piece calipers on
the rear wheels, you can slow the
action in small, homeopathic
doses or with full power. And
you’ll always have a soft landing
when coming back down to
earth: the optional Spinner

even the bumpiest cobblestone
streets. At the request of numer-

Marathon Plus tires to its

Speed DriveDouble your gears with the press
of a button: the Schlumpf Speed
Drive has earned cult status
among bike-tech freaks. Acti -
vated with a simple click of your
heel, the Speed Drive turns an
eight or nine speed gear system
into a fully tour-ready 16 or 18
speed transmission.
Gear Systems: The choice isthe hardest part For a custom-made bike or trike,
it’s you who decides the number
and range of gears for your
unique path and pace: replace the
front derailleur with a simple
chainring in the front – or would
you prefer three chainrings for a
wide range of gears? And in the
back: will it be the 9-speed
Shimano Tiagra? Or maybe you’re
the type who values main -
tenance-free, all-weather hub
gears? If so, you can choose
between the uncomplicated
8-speed Nexus and Rohloff ’s
ingenious all-round Speedhub
with 14 gears and a body built
specially for Hase.
Universal Coupling: Connecting people This multi-functional coupling will
attach as easily to your shopping
trailer as to the HASE TRETS or
a child trailer. And a trike tandem
can be created by attaching the
fork of a second KETTWIESEL.
Even Weber and BOB Yak
systems are welcome.
Luggage Bag: A miracle ofspaceThe insatiable 42-liter HASE Lug-
gage Bag from Ortlieb is available
in black or white. Just hang it
onto the mounts behind the seat-
back. The low center of gravity
will make your KETTWIESEL
even more solid in the curves.
Electric Motor: The Power PackFor long and hilly commutes or
just a little extra speed and
comfort: The Protanium motor
transforms the KETT WIESEL
into a trike hybrid. The 180 W
package on the front wheel pow-
ers along when you start
pedaling. Otherwise it travels –
incognito – in hub disguise.
Lowrider Rack Even more space for touring lug -
gage: our Lowrider Rack puts
more weight on the front wheel
without affecting the handling. The
advantage over standard lowrider
racks: plenty of clearance between
the panniers and the pedals! (Not
compatible with the carbon fork,
suspension forks, 16-inch forks.)
Differential: Power for two It’s the invention that made the
car possible: the differential. And
on the KETTWIESEL, it’s the
final ingredient for ultimate riding
fun, especially on loose gravel or
sand. Specially designed by Marec
Hase for the KETTWIESEL, the
Differential transfers the pedal
power to both rear wheels. It
shows its true colors on rough
terrain or muddy slopes, where
others skid out. And if you want
to do wheelies on the
KETTWIESEL, the Differential is
an absolute must.

Comfort? Naturally!
Mellow mobility instead of speed. Laid-back legwork instead
of sore muscles. Our LEPUS is pure high-tech but easy
to handle, comfortable and above all: practical! Eric and his

HASE ingenuity: the suspension
swing arm that supports the rear
wheels makes the LEPUS feel like
a sedan. A top-quality air-sprung
suspension system takes the bite
out of nasty road shocks. The
stiffness of the shock absorber is
infinitely adjustable to your
weight and the type of terrain.
Riders with especially high stan d -
ards for comfort choose the
optional DT Swiss XM180 – and
float away on a pillow of air. The
seat height can be varied from 20

And the LEPUS luggage tray can
even handle an entire box of
flowers for Eric’s wife. Just as
practical: the substantial 49-liter
Ortlieb Luggage Bag for when,
instead of flowers, you’re hauling
the weekend groceries home.
The disc brake system even has a
separate parking brake
mechanism to keep the trike
from rolling off while you’re load-

For transport, the LEPUS can be
folded to fit into even compact
cars: the swing arm can be easily
folded forward; with folded seat,

LEPUS | C O M F O RT Some like it … comfy!
The LEPUS COMFORT is the all-around, feel-good trike for people
who place a high value on comfortable safety. People for whom
fun mobility does not include the fast and the furious. They roman-
ticize over cobblestone streets but don’t necessarily want to
bounce over them. And they know what difference a little angle in
the frame can make.
Ingrid Manthey-Sauer is never
happy about leaving her beloved
Ruhr region. Especially not for
the “wild east”. After all, she fled
East Germany as a child. But with
the prospect of meeting her long-

LEPUS COMFORT. The old
friends could hardly contain their
excitement: “Wow, there, do you
remember …?” and “Gosh, this is
so nice!” For example, when
touring Berlin’s Museum Island.
And sometimes, this enthusiasm
was directed at the trikes on
which they comfortably explored
their old stomping grounds.
The comfort begins when you
first sit down: the angled boom –
together with the small, 16” wheel
up front – makes getting into the
seat a whole lot easier. With the
lowered position of the bottom
bracket, even pedaling is more
comfortable, especially for older
riders or riders with handicaps.
Add to that a dose of LEPUS-
style ergonomics: the seat height,
seatback angle, handlebar width,
and even handlebar angle are all
adjustable.
Comfort and enjoy ment go hand
in hand with safety – with the
LEPUS, a given: the LEPUS
COMFORT is designed for intu-
itive riding, thanks in part to the
hub gears. A gentle pressure from
your index finger is all it takes to
actuate the Tektro Auriga Twin
hydraulic disc brakes. And like
any LEPUS, the COMFORT is
also collapsible for easy
transport. But Ingrid wasn’t ready
to pack her LEPUS away so
soon. There were just so many
more places she and Elli wanted
to explore …31

For pacifiers and pedal-pushers
Kids are totally unpredictable – just the way they should be.
After all, they have to discover the world, in all its variety,
for themselves. This means: we should be flexible too – like
everything else in their exciting world. This is why we reinvented
the TRETS once again – and made it even more variable.
The little ones seem quite pleased …
Even babies are eager to explore
their world. No problem, with
the new TRETS: its new design
can accommodate an infant car -
rier or baby seat. Now passen -
gers from about one month of
age can begin their TRETS
careers! Robin takes in the world
with curious eyes. What he
doesn’t know yet: his comfy
TRETS
33
TRETS
TRETS will be with him for years
to come. And once he gets a bit
older and more active, it will all
be even more fun. For example,
when mama takes her morning
run, followed by her shopping
errands, surrogate dad Dirk von
Rijn takes him on a bike tour, or
the little pilot eventually takes
the wheel of his very own
trike. Too much at once? As every
parent knows, those years fly by…
When redesigning the TRETS,
we took special care in coming
up with the optimal Jogger and
Buggy. We accomplished it, in
part, by adding the smaller front
wheel and a new wheel-mounting
system for multiple uses. We also
added the practical footrest
to guarantee maximum protection
for the little legs dangling outside
the baby seat. On her run, mom
can now steer with the handlebar
that will later be used by the
young triker for tearing down the
same paths. This works as smooth
as silk – and with safety – thanks
to the new chassis. The front
wheel turns automatically in the
desired direction, somewhat like
the front wheels of a shopping
cart – but much more accurately.
And be it jogging or shopping,
mom can easily slow the momen-
tum with the levers of the
powerful Avid disc brakes at her
fingertips. In the meantime,
Robin is safely strapped in and
enjoying the ride. In the after -
34
TRETS noon, it’s down to the river Spree
with buddy, Dirk: front wheel off,
drawbar on – and in just a few
minutes, the TRETS has been
transformed into a trailer. In this
April weather, the handy Fairing
can be snapped on quickly. It can
also be used in Jogger mode.
Come rain or snow, Lisa is
always smiling, warm and cozy in
her own mini climate to-go. But
it’s not long before the young
passenger is ready for a little
more action. Then it’s time to
pedal along and show dad what
an outboard motor feels like!
With the 7-speed SRAM
derailleur that Lisa controls by
twist shifter directly beside the
seat, it’s easy to find just the right
gear. After all, it’s only right to
leave a little pedaling work for
the guy up front.
And then there’s the Trike –
Hannah made a whole trip yes -
terday on her own three wheels:
papa took the push bar out of
the jogger, mounted it to the
head tube, made a quick adjust -
ment for just the right handlebar
angle, and off she flew: this is
when the TRETS becomes the
little sister of cornering machine
KETTWIESEL. With the gear
system described above, Hannah
can even keep up with the big
ones. And safely, for there’s no
tipping over when she stops.
Hannah has also already
mastered the intuitive operation
of the disc brakes … and all the
fun she can have with them. For
it’s much more exciting to
captain your own ship: the
TRETS turns on a dime, the cor-
nering is whoooosh, and the
coolness factor can be gauged by
the faces of the on-looking kids.
For transport, the trike folds up
to packable size: just take off the
front wheel, handlebar ditto, and
fold down the seat – now the
TRETS is small enough to fit in
practically any trunk. The Fairing
can be folded up to umbrella size
in seconds for bringing along.
And that’s what Robin, Hannah,
Lisa, and Leon love most of all:
enjoying TRETS adventures, far,
far away!

Universal Coupling: Get hitched! With this Hase accessory you
can hitch up almost anything on
wheels: draw bars for the attach-
ment of quick-release hub axles
as well as the BOB Yak, the
Weber adapter, and of course the
KETTWIESEL and TRETS.

Practical parts for perfectionists
All of our bikes and trikes are built according to the same
concept: as specialized as necessary – as flexible as
possible. For highly sophisticated cyclists and special
applications, we also offer you a wide range of accessories
– like the HASE Universal Coupling for doubling the fun
with the KETTWIESEL tandem …

Hase Differential: Double the driveFor even better propulsion on
poor surfaces and the ultimate off-
road experience: HASE’s Differ -
ential for the KETTWIESEL or
LEPUS transfers the power to
both rear wheels. By the way, this
accessory is a must for wheelie-
fans …
Headrest: Stable backingCraving a little extra support?
The flexible Headrest makes
triking even more enjoyable.
Lean back during pit stops and
soak in some rays.
Lowrider Rack: Sweet and lowWhen the rear luggage bag is too
small or you want to ride with a
more evenly distributed load, the
Lowrider Rack is the perfect
solution for the LEPUS and
KETT WIESEL. Just click on a set
of standard Lowrider panniers
and off you go! (not pictured)
XXL: The extra portion! We offer XXL versions of many
HASE parts: for example a seat
with an extra 3 inches (7 cen -
timeters) of width for larger rid-
ers, as well as extensions for the
seat and seatback and XXL
handlebar grips. Just ask! (not
pictured)
Electric Drive: Tailwind de LuxeThe electric motor is suitable for
everyday use or can be switched
on for steep hills and longer
stretches. It can be used with all
HASE bikes and trikes and does
not require a permit to operate.
Simple controls, and all gear
system options remain. The
180-watt motor is extremely
quiet. High-quality lithium-ion
battery. The battery is easy to
remove but lockable for theft
protection. An empty battery can
be com pletely recharged in only
4m hours. Battery 24 V and 9 Ah,
500–700 charge cycles.
Weight: 15 lbs (7 kg). Not
compatible with hub dynamos.
B & M Mirror: For better hindsight! Tailgaters beware! Because look-
ing over your shoulder is no fun
on a recumbent: the rearview
mirror from Busch & Müller gives
you a wide view to the back
thanks to its special optics.
(not pictured)
Extra-long fenders:Extra dry legsNow it’s even more fun to ride the
KETTWIESEL in tandem – espe-
cially for the rear rider: with the
extended rear-wheel fenders, he’ll
stay clean and dry, even in wet
weather – and the KETTWIESEL
couple can plow through puddles
without needing a change of clothes.
SON Hub Dynamo: Eco-power to go Lightweight, smooth running, and
full power: with the new Hub
Dynamo for 20-inch wheels,
you’ll never run out of energy. In
any weather.
LEPUS Foldable Fairing:Comfort climate to goWith its portable climate protec-
tion, the LEPUS is an all-weather,
all-round, feel-good trike: when
rain is in the forecast, the Fairing
can be unpacked, unfolded, and
clipped on in less than two min -
utes. And if it’s a storm a brewin’,
simply add the integrated Poncho.
Bar End Shifters: Cool clicksA fingertip, and you’re in gear:
for all derailleur systems, we
offer Shimano Bar End Shifters
instead of twist shifters.
The ultimate in smooth shifting.
Our model Oliver Anthofer was
thrilled to accept our invitation
for a shooting session in Berlin –
a city the Austrian had never
visited. He especially enjoyed ped -
aling along in Berlin’s early
summer bicycle traffic. No
wonder: experienced handbikers
can ride the HANDBIKE, with
KETTWIESEL or LEPUS frame, 38
Being there is everything!
The more severe the physical limitations, the harder it is to
make mobility possible. But this is where it’s especially
important. The HASE HANDBIKE has mastered the balanc-
ing act: it’s flexible and therefore totally practical, but still
makes biking loads of fun! “Joie de vivre to go”, in more ways
than one!
HANDBIKE
just as fast as a standard trike.
And the engineering is hot off the
presses, as illustrated by the
model shown here. You can cus-
tomize your HANDBIKE from
the same set of components as,
for example, the KETTWIESEL
ALLROUND, meaning high-
quality hydraulic disc brakes, your
choice of derailleur or hub gears
from top manufacturers, and a
wide range of gears, which is
especially important for hand
drive. Although: in terms of power,
our handbiker has plenty to
spare. Back home, Oliver, who
has been paraplegic since an acci-
dent 20 years ago, loves nothing
more than cranking up and down
the Austrian mountain trails on
his HANDBIKE. For this, nothing
beats the optional 14-speed
Rohloff hub and – the optional
feature that turns this trike into
the only hand bike on the market
with real climbing skills – a Dif -
ferential, which drives both rear
wheels. It makes the mountains
barrier-free; which Oliver unfor-
tunately can’t say about Berlin’s
hotels and bars. And the HAND-
BIKE ergonomics can be adapted
to every rider – from the adjustable
crank handles and well-designed
leg supports to the moveable
steering column for easy mount-
ing and dismounting.
And for those who prefer an
extra dose of comfort: the LEPUS
HANDBIKE is suspended…39

TRIX Truly magical…TRIX!
Fun mobility is especially important for young people with
disabilities as well as children in physical therapy. Enthusiasm
fuels development! Our TRIX was designed for this very
purpose. Because fun-filled physical activity trains agility,
coordination, and much more. Possible side effects: smiles,
laughter, and – in some cases – uncontrollable giggling.
The TRIX takes kids to an excit-
ing new level of physical activ ity …
frustration free. Even the
youngest riders will have no prob-
lem shifting the 8-speed gear hub.
The TRIX is infinitely adjustable
and ergonomically designed to fit
kids of all shapes, sizes, and
special needs, be it disability or
rehabilitation. From leg-length
adjustment to adjustable under-
seat handlebars, and so much
more. The pedals have toe clips
and straps to keep the feet
secure so that the pilot can focus
her full attention on navigation
and, of course … fun. Even the
140 mm cranks and the small, 16”
front wheel are opti mized for
smaller riders. But the TRIX isn’t
just for small fry: anyone from
4’1” (1.25 m) to 6’3” (1.90 m) in
height can ride, and the trike has
been con structed with the
sturdiest heavyweights in mind:
an extremely robust frame, pow-
erful – yet very smooth – disc
brakes, and durable components.
The wheels have spoke guards to
protect children’s hands. And, for
transport, the rear wheels can be
quickly removed, thanks to
HASE’s own Quickstick hubs.
With no tools – or magic wand –
the TRIX can be transformed to
suitcase-size in a flash. Great for
parents: in Germany, the TRIX is
registered as a medical aid and is
therefore recognized by health
insurance companies!41

HASE | S P E C I A L AC C E S S O R I E S Specials for special riders
Sometimes a minor detail stands between us and our mobility:
for example, if your knee doesn’t bend far enough, then
a bicycle with standard equipment is useless. The range of
special accessories from HASEBIKES compensates for such
minor – or even major – differences, helping restore normal
mobility – be it rehab patients or people with handicaps.
Trailer Bar: Hitching a rideSimple name, fine piece of equip-
ment: the Trailer Bar turns any
bike into a KETTWIESEL-towing
machine – without sacrificing
safety: the integrated overrun
brake system works automatically.

One-sided Leg SupportA comfortable solution for people
with paralysis on one side of the
body or a handicap. The healthy
leg can pedal while the other is
safely strapped into its own com -
fortable support. The infinitely
adjustable Leg Support mounts
behind the bottom bracket.
Armrest: Take a load offWhen the arm cannot support
its own weight, these
comfortable armrests ensure a
relaxed arm position.
Open AHEAD CapThe open AHEAD cap makes it
possible to attach any commer -
cially available bicycle stem to the
fork of a KETTWIESEL or
LEPUS. The stem can be used
for the attachment of grab
handles, push handles, and much
more.
Coaster BrakeWhen the legs are more mobile
than the hands, the coaster brake
ensures full braking power – with
high tech: pedaling backwards
transfers the leg power to a
hydraulic disc brake.
Single-hand ControlsA single grip with all control
elements! Using a special adapter,
two brake levers can be mounted
on one side. This allows the
rider to shift gears and control
both brake levers using a single
hand.
Brake CouplingFor people with reduced mobility
in one hand. The coupling con -
nects the two disc brakes with a
single brake lever. Precision
hydraulics and the ergonomic
design of the lever guarantee full
braking power and excellent
modulation, singlehandedly.
Fixed Gear HubThe trike becomes a fixie with a
single gear. With the Fixed Gear
Hub, the pedals of the
KETTWIESEL or TRETS remain
in motion as long as the trike is
moving. Especially sensible for
physical therapy patients and
people with limited mobility.
Handlebar ExtensionsPutting the steering unit within
reach: the KETTWIESEL and
LEPUS can be equipped with up
to 80cm handlebar extensions.
16” Front WheelMounting and pedaling is easier
with the lowered frame height.

Crank ShortenerFor people with legs of different
lengths or restrictions in leg
mobility … but also for kids. The
pedals can be slid individually
along the crank for separate
adjustment, optimizing rehabilita-
tion training or allowing the
crank length to grow with your
child.
Special Steering / ShoulderSteering Unit Mobility for people with no arms
or short arms. The width of the
steering unit is fully adjustable.
A coaster brake is used for stop-
ping.
Freewheel Switch-offFor children in physical therapy, it
is often sensible to keep the
muscles moving over a longer
period of time. This is where our
Freewheel Switch-off comes in:
this little mechanism keeps those
little legs in motion. Simple
cause, major effect.
Turn Signal SystemEven more passive safety – and
not only for people with
handicaps. The battery-powered
Turn Signal System is operated
intuitively with the simple touch
of a button. And with its
inconspicuous looks, it blends
right in with the design of your
trike.
Safety Belts Shoulder belts and lap belts
gently secure riders with motor
disorders to the recumbent seat.

Pendulum PedalThese pedals can help people with
severely limited mobility slowly
regain their flexibility and
strength. The trick: pedaling is
pos sible with very little bend to
the legs. The pedals can be
adjust ed to allow for more move-
ment as leg strength returns,
creating a beneficial training effect.
Pedals with Toe Clips andStrapsAs an alternative to clipless pedals
and shoes with cleats: these
Pedals hold the front portion of
the foot with a brace, guarantee-
ing the correct foot position,
while the elastic strap around the
heel prevents slipping. Also avail-
able in a children’s version.
Holder for Walking SticksJust place the walking sticks or
cane in the holder, secure them
with the clamp, and hit the road.
Multi- functional. Fits tubes
z”– 2n” (15 – 60 mm) in
diameter.
Seat or Seatback ExtensionMore space – more comfort.
This option gives you extra room
on the seat or seatback.
Special PedalsWith these pedals for people
with motor disorders, the feet
can be secured in the correct
position and prevented from
slipping. Precision positioning
pure. Also available in a children’s
version.
Special Pedals with Calf Support In addition to the secure
positioning of the foot on the
Special Pedal, the calf brace
provides stability for the lower
leg and the angle of the ankle.
Also available in a children’s
version.

The Extraschicht is THE festival
of the Ruhr region: exciting,
diverse, colorful – something for
everyone. The HASEBIKES head-
quarters is also a major venue.
Here, on the eclectic summer
nights of the festival, you can find
street theater, trike races,
culinary treats, and lightshows to
blow your mind.
HASEBIKES: Creating mobility … and more
Bike culture goes beyond bike building. Take the Extraschicht,
for example: each year, the Zeche Waltrop is a venue for
this, the largest festival in the Ruhr region with lots of culture
and culinary delights. The HASE buildings also host other
concerts and festivals throughout the year. Festivities, culture,
and even space for advertising.

and Rainman for the gents. Time
to work on that German
accent … and multiculti look.
HASE Buff: Warm can be so cool! Multifunctional, cool, and
immensely practical: The original

more. If you’ve never expe -
