One day in spring, Farasi took a bath in the pool. Hey, wait a minute! This is – not Farasi. That‘s his daddy, Wilhelm.

Wilhelm shows us a smile. Or does he wan‘t to make us go away? Anyway, you can see that hippos don‘t brush their teeth.

Here we go! Helvetia, Farasi and Daddy Wilhelm live in Basel Zoo. Did you know that Hippos can‘t sweat? That‘s why they chill in the water.

Farasi was born in November 2008. His mum is 17, his dad 18 years old.This film was made when he was presented to the public for the first time.

After a while, Farasi is fed up with swimming around. At the side of his mother, he want‘s to climb outside the pool.

«Go after your father, boy! Or do you need help?» Helvetia is a little impatient. Maybe the water is still a bit cool.

The exit from the pool is narrow. Farasi almost gets crushed by his mum. Adult hippos weigh about 1,5 tons. But Farasi is still far away from that.

Finally, Farasi makes it out of the pool. But hey, what‘s that?!Helvetia relieves herself …

… right on her poor boy!«Looks like I have to take another bath now.»

When hippos shit, they use their tail as a propeller to spread the dung. If you ever happen to walk behind one of them, make sure to keep some distance.
