The “FILL INS” Connections: Connections are the “ah ha!” moments that
hopefully you will have as we explore history together. For example, if we cover something in class that you all of a sudden realize was the inspiration for a scene in your favorite movie, song, book, video game, etc., this is where you can write about it.
Time Outs: Times Outs are “cut and pastes” that you find in newspapers, magazines, or even television shows that relate to the information we have studied in class. Simply cut out the article (or describe the television show) and explain its connection to the unit we are studying.
Personal Responses: Personal Responses are simply your feelings about anything we have discussed. If something sparks your interest you can feel free to write about it here. This is meant to be a dialogue between you and me. I do advise, however, that you speak to me personally if you have a question that needs an immediate answer.
Such as….
Notes
Personal Response:
I really enjoyed the assembly line simulation we did last week in class. It really made me realize how tough it would be to work 16 hours a day. I wish you would call on me more though…you always call on everybody else.
or this…

By making your work clear and easily accessible you will be able to re-read it later on while studying.
By carefully organizing your work you will be more likely not to lose it and you will be less stressed out and more successful.
And most importantly…
If you have a TEST PREP PAGE you can use your journal on the unit test.

This is a Safe ClassroomThis means that we will practice respect for
and courtesy toward each other at all times. The learning process at its best involves risk-taking. To encourage risk-taking, there will be no put-downs, no disrespectful comments or gestures of any kind. There will be many questions, much laughter, and a good deal of learning in our climate of respect.
1. Why is it important for all of us to create a safe classroom?
2. What will you do to contribute to a safe classroom?
