GPS Survey -Objectives

Capture latitude and Longitude of Network Facilities like Substations, Distribution Transformers, HT and LT Poles, etc., Collect all relevant attribute information.Transfer the data directly to POWERNET or GIS Package for analysis.

GPS Satellites

24 satellites orbit at 20,200 Kms24 hours operationProvides Position, Velocity and Time anywhere in the worldMaintained by DOD USA

GPS : How It works

24 GPS sat. at 20,200 Kms orbit twice per day.

GPS receiver on ground calculate their position by making distance measurements to four or more satellites

KHAMMAM HT GPS DATA WITH DIG. DATA

Methodology

Survey of Electrical Network:

• Establish Base station at Central place.

• The base coordinates will be determined by observing GPS data for minimum 72 hours.

• Survey will be performed feeder wise by the teams. A Trimble Rover station 3C Model having 5 meter accuracy will be taken to each Electrical object like pole, distribution transformer etc. to capture its latitude and longitude.

• Every pole or electrical object will be given a unique ID as per the plan specified by the APCPDCL .

Survey of Electrical Network:

• Differential correction will be performed using post-processing technique and the software provided by Trimble – a leading GPS Vendor.

• The differential processing will give 1 mtr. Accuracy. • The GPS data will be imported to POWERGIS .

• POWERGIS has the capability to build the network topology using GPS data.

• The network map will be overlaid on the base map.

Survey of Electrical Network

• Distribution Transformers Type I.e pole mounted or plinth mounted will be separately identified.

• Jumpers given on lines will be identified.

• Isolators, sectionalizers and Fuses etc., will be identified.

• All cables, their position will be identified as per the maps available with APCPDCL. Where no such maps are available, they shall be verified with cable tracing equipment.

• All cable joints will be identified.

• Feeder pillar boxes, service pillar boxes will be identified.

Consumer indexing:• Identify Consumers incident on each pole or service pillar

from which supply is released by field survey

• Incorporate the information in POWERGIS

• POWERGIS will automatically establish the link between consumer to pole, pole to LV Feeder, LV Feeder to Distribution substation, Distribution substation to 11kV Feeder and 11kV Feeder to Grid substation.

• The complete hierarchy will get updated as and when the network is re-configured i.e., changes in LV network with erection of distribution substation or changes in HV network with erection of new distribution substations or New 11kV Feeder etc.

Why GIS in POWER ?GIS is required to build a topology and store information related to each and every equipment

Topology enables the user to Run the applications better Manipulate the network for different studies View the network in an organized way Build customized views for better displays

Using GIS we can locate every equipment on a map and on the ground.

Energy Audit And

Commercial Loss Management

Objectives Of Energy Audit

• Energy Accounting and Audit of feeders and distribution transformers

• Energy Accounting and Audit of dedicated HT consumer’s feeder based on load survey data

• Customer energy sales review

•Load research providing load duration curve, typical daily load curve etc.

IDENTIFICATION OF HIGH LOSSESComputes feederwise losses by taking units billed from billing system automatically Feederwise losses of Motibaug S/S (Nov-Dec 02)

• Computes transformer wise losses by taking units billed from billing system automatically

• Transformer wise losses of TinMurti Feeder (Jan-03)

IDENTIFICATION OF HIGH LOSSES
