Where do they came from ?They came from:
Siria (50%) ; Afghanistan (13%) ; Eritrea (8%) ; Nigeria (4%); Somalia (3%) ; Pakistan (3%) ; Iraq (3%) ; Sudan (2%); Gambia (1%) ; Bangladesh (1%)
How dangerous is the journey?More than 3770 refugees and migrants have died this year
trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea in overcrowding rubber dinghies or unsafe fishing boats. Most died on the crossing from north Africa to Italy and more than 800 died in the Aegean crossing from Turkey to Greece.
What about unaccompanied refuge children?Unaccompanied children are the neediest kind of
refuge but Europe hasn’t done nearly enough to provide proper houses for
the 90000 refugees children
that travel without their parents. They
want look after themselves. They
need help.
Where do the migrants and refugees go? Migrants are people that escape from their countries because of the poorness, politic problems, the war or because they want a better life. They arrive in Italy, Corsica, Greece, Hungary, but most of them choose to claim asylum to other countries.
The most affected European countries are: Sweden, Norway, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Luxenbourg, Malta, Poland, Spain, Portugal, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Romania etc.
Italy is famous for hospitality and kindness
The Italians won’t refuse the migrants
Their boundaries are always open
Over the past three years, half a million boat people have arrived in Italy. They usually enter in our country by the Lampedusa Island with boats without an entry visa and in a very poor condition.
They are immediately identified and sent in hotels or villages in order to be fed, receiving money from the government every week.
Once they have arrived, they usually do jobs that
people in the host country don't want to do...
...and frequently they work longer hours and for lower salaries
It’s necessary to develop intercultural strategies which involve the interaction between cultures,
exchange and comunication , so that the individual recognizes and accepts the diversity of the other person. This
is INTEGRATION !
