HAIR ART DESIGN
ABOUT THE PROGRAMJohn Casablancas and AXIS Training Systems teamed up
in 2004 proudly offering this revolutionary program.
In response to the changing needs in the hair industry
and the “Deregulation” of the BC Licensing Program; JCI
and AXIS paved the way for an innovative and exciting
approach to training hairdressers for today’s industry.
The Hair Art Design Program at JCI is the only accredited
program in BC approved for a 520-hour curriculum. AXIS
founder Foster Eastman says, “In six months our hands on
style of training gives students the skills and confidence
to start working immediately. This is Hair University! It is a
place for eager, self-motivated students who are serious
about starting a new career.”

job anytime. She anticipated stylists needs without being
asked and we had many clients give positive comments,
including that she gave the best head massage they have
ever had.”

personality. I would definitely hire her to work in
my salon.”
JAYMITONI & GUY
“Great worker!!”
The program is 20 hours per week and offers the option
of morning, afternoon, evening or weekend classes
so that students can work at their current jobs while
retraining for a new career. Student loans are available for
those who qualify.
Located in Historic Gastown, the teaching salon occupies
a 1200 square foot loft-style space that nurtures a
creative and stimulating working salon environment. Run
exactly as Foster’s successful salons, students provide
clients a professional salon experience.
Our faculty is comprised of top working professionals and
guest instructors whose focus is on the future of hair. This
is a modern program providing a strong foundation of

DUSTIN JONESINSTRUCTOR
In general, hairstylists are skilled
in all aspects of the industry, yet
they all have a specialty and for
JCI grad Dustin Jones it’s curly
hair and color corrections. Dustin
left small town Manitoba in pursuit
of his dream career in hairstyling
and has been a part of the AXIS
team for the past 5 years. Dustin
took a 6 month hiatus in Australia
to work alongside world renowned
hairstylist Cliff Georgiades, a leading
figure in the industry winning over
30 International awards. Outside
of the salon Dustin has worked
on a number of fashion shows
including the recent “AXIS Lingerie

Vancouver Fashion Week, Melbourne
Fashion Week, Brian Jessel BMW,
and grad shows for JC Institute.
Dustin continues to attend master
education classes to better his

her dream to become a hairdresser.
Katie is a graduate of the Hair Art
Design Program at JC Institute and
began working at AXIS before she
even graduated. In 2007 JCI was
thrilled to add Katie to our team of
amazing instructors. Katie recently
took a sabbatical moving to London,
England for two years teaching and
advancing her education working with
award winning HOB salons. During
her stay in London she attended many
artistic and competitive hair shows
such as Wella’s Trend Vision and
the prestigious British Hair dressing
awards. Now, back in Vancouver Katie
continues to compete on both a local
and international level, but it’s her
love for education that makes her a
vital part of the JCI team.
BRIANNA MOSCHENROSSINSTRUCTOR
From the age of 14 Brianna always
knew she wanted to become a
hairstylist! With over ten years of
experience in the industry, Brianna
has not only technical and creative
skills to pass on to her students, but
also a deep belief in the importance
of giving clients an amazing salon
experience. Brianna has combined
her love of hair with her love of film
by styling for many local short films
over the years, and regularly works
on entries in the Bloodshots 48hr
Horror Film Competition! Not only is
Brianna passionate about educating
her students, she is also dedicated
to furthering her own education by
attending advanced Wella Color
classes, as well as master cutting
classes taught by internationally
renowned stylists such as Philip
Ferreira and Antonio Quintieri.
Brianna has been an amazing teacher
at JCI since 2006, and we are so lucky
that our students get to experience
her detailed and enthusiastic
approach to hair!
AMANDA VIERA INSTRUCTORAmanda is JCI Alumni and won Top

hired at graduation by AXIS Salons
where she remains a senior stylist

creativity and passion as she does hair
and makeup for a local photography
business. Amanda brings a current
and creative approach to her teaching
at JCI.

program. She has been cutting hair
for 5 years and is a senior stylist at
AXIS Hair Salon in Coal Harbour,
Vancouver. Dawn lived in London,

exposure to high fashion led her to
realize her true love was in design.
Dawn completed 2 years at London
Guildhall University in the jewelry
design program and has an extensive
background in fashion design and
fashion styling. For Dawn, hair is a
continuation in the study of three
dimensional design and completing
a vision. Her favourite hair cut is the
infinite interpretations of a graduated
bob. She loves to share her passion
for hair and encourages her students
to search beyond their limits and push
their artistic envelope
FEATURED GRADUATESKIM BRENT After graduating in 2008 Kim, a budding entrepreneur,
went on to open her own salon “IDENTITY,” in Sherwood
Park, Alberta. Kim’s vision began long before her
graduation date and instead of lying on the beach during
spring break, she spent the week renovating her shop to
create a modern salon with a welcoming and romantic
feel. Kim even recruited JCI graduate Sascha Elgie to open
and run the salon while she finished up her training here at
the college.
SUE CARTER And the WINNER is...Sue Carter! Sue wowed the judges
at the 2006 Contessa Awards taking home the award
for the top Assistant/Apprentice. After completing her
training at JCI’s Axis program, Sue accepted a position
with Vancouver’s prestigious Master stylist Jon Paul Holt
at Avant Garde Salon in trendy Yaletown. While at Avante
Garde Sue made the acquaintance of International color
artist for Redken Stephanie Largos, whose inspiration
took her to New York City where she trained at “Culter
Salon” under Redken Pro Patrick McIvor. Today Sue is still
with the Redken family and works in Montreal as a color
specialist. She aspires to become a member of the Redken
International team and to continue her training with top

by talent agency THEYrep who refers Katrina to many

hairdressing classes at JCI. She graduated top of her
class and is now an active member of this dynamic field.

in Vancouver and continues freelance make-up. Her
amazing spirit proves her artful passion for this industry,
feeling lucky that her childhood dream became a reality.

finalist on Season 2 of Canadian Superstar Hair Challenge
and finished 6th overall! She’s made use of her new
network of friends and recently took part in a charity
benefit “cutting” hair for AIDS with Anthony, the winner

an exciting adventure and knows it’s not over yet!
CEILIDH COSTELLOFrom a young age, Ceilidh was certain that being a
stylist was the profession for her. Starting her passion
for the industry at the age of 16, Ceilidh worked as
an assistant at Fish Hair Salon in Victoria. After high
school she headed to Vancouver to study at JCI and
upon graduating she began her full-time career with the
master himself, Foster Eastman. As her stardom began
to rise Ceilidh left her BC roots and headed to Toronto
