During the enclosure movement, many farmers lost their jobs.In factories, many workers were hurt or killed because of poor working conditions. Whose responsibility is it to take care of the people?
FACTORIES AND MASS PRODUCTION
Mass Production: system of manufacturing large numbers of identical items
Interchangeable parts made production and repair more efficient
Led to dramatic increase in production, very repetitious jobs for employees
CHANGING IDEOLOGIES
1700s, government shouldn’t interfere with business = laissez-faire
Adam Smith -advocate of laissez-faire = capitalism
Robert Owen – socialism – society/government owns all property
Karl Marx- communism (government owns means of production and controls economic planning)
