Living a Worry-free Life

Matthew 6:25-34

Encounter with Death

We all worry…

Why do we worry?

Jesus’ Diagnosis of Worry

• Matthew 6:19-24– Storing treasures in the wrong place (vv19-21)

– Viewing life from the wrong perspective (v22)

– Serving the wrong master (v24)

Jesus’ Prescription for Worry

Have the right values!

• Q1: What is more important?• Matthew 6:25• “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your

life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?

Have the right identity!

• Q2: Who is more important?• Matthew 6:26• Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or

reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Have the right perspective!

• Q3: Who is in control?• Matthew 6:27• Can any one of you by worrying add a single

hour to your life?

Have the right faith!• Q4: Who knows?• Matthew 6:28-30• “And why do you worry about clothes? See how

the flowers of the field grow. They do not labour or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith?

Worry misunderstands God’s…

• immense power…

• immediate presence…

• intentional purpose…

Faith surpasses unbelievers!

• Matthew 6:31-32• So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’

or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things…

Our Father knows our needs!

• Matthew 6:32• …and your heavenly Father knows that you

need them.

But I still worry!

Worry about the King!

• Matthew 6:33• But seek first his kingdom and his

righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

Worry about how God can be king• Letting God rule my life…

Before ProgressRarely read the bible Read bible 5 times a weekPraying for my needs Praying for need of othersOffer spare coins Planned givingLate to service Punctual Rarely serves Actively seeking to serveNever shared the gospel Always ready to shareDon’t care about sinning Conscious of sins

Let tomorrow be tomorrow…

• Matthew 6:34• Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for

tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
