What Is a Refugee?

• Sudan may be the world’s most murderous conflict. But the suffering of its people has been obscured, redacted, made silent.

•Thousands of people have died and millions of people have been displaced since civil war

WHAT IS BEING DONE TO HELP THE REFUGEES DURING THE

PRESENT TIME?  (I.E. UNITED NATIONS? GOVERNMENT

INTERVENTION?  NOTHING?  WHY?

•During 2002, the Sudan peace process under the support of IGAD made significant progress. •Adding enforce to peace efforts, the Secretary-General visited the Sudan from 10-12 July 2002.

HOW MANY REFUGEES CURRENTLY LIVE IN

THE UNITED STATES?

•Sudan has approximately 34.5 million people from as many as 400 different national groups. •The North is focus by Arabic-speaking Muslims.• In the South, at least 100 different languages are spoken, and most southern Sudanese follow indigenous beliefs or have become Christians.

HOW CAN WE HELP REFUGEES

TODAY?

•On July 9, 2011, South Sudan gained independence from Sudan and became the world’s youngest country. •After more than two decades of civil war, it was hoped that this separation would finally lead to peace for the people of the South.

WHAT ARE SOME TRANSITIONS

AND APPROPRIATE

ANIMATIONS?

•The Near (Neath) people in South Sudan are one of the largest ethnic groups in the northeastern Africa which stretches from Egypt for 2000 km and westward from the Red Sea for 1500km. •They are the second largest tribe in South Sudan, numbering over one and half million people.
