Therefore we need effective anti-corruption management systems.

• We believe that we have systems that are at the forefront of international best practice.

• But how can we be sure?

External Certification

• We are familiar with the BS and ISO standards for management systems, such as ISO 9001 and 14001.

• This approach forces a discipline into our systems.

• This approach forces a discipline into our systems.

• Internal and external audits to confirm compliance.

• External certification to demonstrate compliance.

• BS 10500 will not guarantee compliance, but it does increase confidence in our approach.

Accreditation Process

• LRQA was selected to carry out the assessment.

• Stage 1, document readiness review, completed at the end of May.

• Identified 3 major and 4 minor non-conformances, not surprising with a new standard.

Non-conformances• The 3 major non-conformances were:

2. Pre-employment vetting for new employees to be extended.

2. Pre-employment vetting for new employees to be extended.

3. Introduce formal process for recording conflicts of interest.

• So we learned something – which is good.

• Those issues were resolved before the stage 2 assessment, in order to demonstrate full compliance.

Accreditation Process

• Stage 2, formal assessment, carried out at the end of July .

• Identified 4 more minor non-conformances.

• Identified 4 more minor non-conformances.

• These did not prevent Mabey Bridge becoming the first company to become accredited with BS 10500.

• First 6-monthly surveillance visit scheduled for early January 2013.

BS 10500 will help
