The Department has

made a commitment

to raise the reliability

of SR 57 travel time by

one level.

• Reliable (Buffer Index Up to 20%)

• Moderately Unreliable (20 -40%)

• Unreliable (Over 40%)

• Reliable (Buffer Index Up to 20%)

• Moderately Unreliable (20 -40%)

• Unreliable (Over 40%)

Needs-Based Project Definition• Improve and measure safety

• Reduce and measure incident response time

• Full visual coverage of multi-modal corridors for incident verification and response

• Ramp metering adjustable remotely to real-time conditions, and operate 24/7

• Inform arterials commuters of incidents and delays on freeways and vice versa

• Integrated incident databases so that CHP and ATMS operators can populate events and see existing events

• Integrated operations for after hours traffic management on local roads by Caltrans, as needed

• Enhance congestion management/travel demand management

• Adjustable speed limit controls to avoid bottlenecks

• System interoperability between agencies (CHP, Caltrans, Cities)

• Region-wide parking management and wayfinding system

• Support to increase bus and rail travel and support mode shift based on real-time conditions

• Incident notifications directly to smart phones

• Strategies that promote Active Traffic Management.

Partnerships Common Goals

Systems Engineering and Architecture

Methodology

PURPOSE: To guide the technical development of the ICM project TSMO Plan and later guide and fine tune the ICM operations

PURPOSE: To keep local leadership advised and build project support

PURPOSE: To provide leadership, approve project definition, and advise on funding and political support; signatures for charter/MOU

PURPOSE: To keep local leadership advised and build project support

PURPOSE: To generally inform, gain local support, make aware of benefits once operational

Concept of Operations1- Daily Operations Scenarios (Recurring Congestion)

• Peak hours, active transportation, ramp metering,

signal synch, queue protection, and parking management

•Off-peak–including after hours monitoring for local

agencies

•Underutilized Managed Lanes

Concept of Operations2- Scheduled Event/Construction Scenarios• Multiple events at Angel Stadium, Honda Center, leading to parking filling up at main lots • Honda Center, Angels Stadium events leading to queuing at on-ramps • Outlets at Orange on Black Friday and during winter holiday season • Grand opening of the Star Wars Land attractions at Disneyland • Long-term disruptions for widening/ Express Lane projects • Asian Garden Mall during Lunar New Years • Construction at the Orange Crush . Closing time at Disneyland • Knott’s Berry Farm during Halloween . Main Place Black Friday • D23 Expo (Disney Expo) . UPS distribution center during holidays • OC Auto Show . Sunday Street Events (local road closures)• Event at CSUF . Anaheim Convention Center

Concept of Operations3- Incident Scenarios

• NB lanes blocked on SR 57 by incident near Katella Ave • CHP traffic break • Car chase on I-5 • Debris in the roadway on SR 57 Major incident on NB SR 55 • Emergency/Disaster Scenarios • Major storms • Major fire within the Triangle area • Fire in Yorba Linda at the Firestone Scout Reservation • Emergency access for earthquakes • Santa Ana River floods during 100 year event• Metrolink breaks down
