Growing Up Marie Skłodowska was born November 7,

1867. She lived in Warsaw, Poland. She had 4 brothers and sisters. She was the

youngest in her family. She went to a boarding school and tutored

other kids after she graduated She helped her sister pay for medical school

by working as a nanny

Marie and Pierre Curie Marie met Pierre Curie when she was in

college He was a professor of Chemistry and Physics The both liked to study and learn about the

same things They got married in 1895 They had two daughters named Eve and

Irene

Two New Elements Marie and Pierre Curie discovered two new

elements She worked with her her husband Pierre in

the lab They called them Radium and Polonium Polonium was named after Marie’s home

country, Poland Their scientific names are Ra and Po

Nobel Prize Marie Curie won the Nobel prize for Physics

in 1903 The Nobel Prize is one of the highest awards

for scientists She was the first woman to ever win it She won the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in

1911 She is the only person to win the Nobel Prize

in two different scientific fields
