Board No 2MasterplanFrom the comments made at the last consultation the following masterplan was produced which combines there-instatement of a synthetic turf pitch and grass pitch, as well as introducing seating and play areas in the form of anurban beach with sand-based sports such as beach volleyball and informal natural play.

Urban Beach

Precedent in London: Shoreditch Park beach volley ball and informal sand play

Beach sports are rapidly increasing in popularity across the country with a number of leaguesfor beach volleyball tennis, football, rugby and frisbee. With increasing popularity there isdemand for beach sport courts across London and so a new facility at Drapers Field wouldattract users from across London.

Beach sports are an excellent way of getting local children and young people into sports andwith the proximity to the new Chobham Academy the site is in a perfect location.

The urban beach would be constructed from natural materials, with sand for the beach sportsand informal play, surrounded by timber decking and terraces for sitting and watching thegames from.

There is a proven track record of maintaining and managing beach sports facilities within theUK. For example at Shoreditch Park in London which is maintained by the London Borough ofHackney (see below).
