for Braille Users K-3

MathBuilders is a supplemental math

program separated into eight units by content standards and grade level, allowing the teacher to focus on

specific standards or provide remedial

material for individual students.

MathBuilders Eight Units (* = currently

available)– Matching, Sorting, and Patterning *– Number Concepts– Place Value– Number Operations– Measurement– Geometry *– Fractions, Mixed Numbers, and

Decimals– Data Collection, Graphing, and

Probability/Statistics

Each MathBuilders Unit Will Contain:

• Teacher’s guide with lesson plans for grades K-3

• CD-ROM with General Guidelines for Teaching Math to Young Braille Users

• Student worksheets• Manipulative Parts

General Guidelines for Teaching Math to Young

Braille Users – included on CD-ROM and available for

purchase separately - gives an overview of the eight-unit program and includes

chapters that provide guidance in teaching math

to braille users.

– Story Board and shapes with Velcro backing

- Length sticks- Feel ‘n Peel stickers and instruments for making sound patterns

Sample Objectives for Kindergarten

• MA K-1 Match pairs of identical common objects• MA K-2 Match by size.• MA K-3 Match by shape.• MA K-4 Match by color or texture.• MA K-5 Identify the one object in a set of

objects • that is very different.• MA K-6 Identify the one object in a set of

objects • that is different in only one way.• MA K-7 Recognize patterns.• MA K-8 Describe patterns.

Sample Lesson

MA K-10Matching, Sorting, PatterningObjective: The child will extend a

simple pattern of two or three objects or shapes by repeating the pattern at least two more times.

Sample ActivityOn the bottom row find the next

Sample Objectives for 1st Grade

• G 1-1 Identify and reproduct/construct the common geometric shapes: circle, square, triangle, and rectangle, and lines – straight and curved

• G 1-2* Describe the common geometric shapes: circle, square, triangle, and rectangle according to the number of sides and corners (vertices)

• G 1-3* Investigate, describe and name common 3-dimensional shapes: sphere, cube, and pyramid

• G 1-4 Examine and relate 3-dimensional shapes to 2-dimensional shapes: circle to sphere, square to cube, triangle to pyramid

Sample Lesson

G 1-6GeometryObjective: The student will identify

symmetrical figures (lines of symmetry with two matching parts).
