What is Braille?
NOUN: A system of writing and printing for (people who are blind) blind or visually impaired people, in which varied arrangements of raised dots representing letters and numerals are identified by touch.
Braille is a technique for enabling (people who are blind) blind and visually-impaired people to read and write.
Who Invented Braille?
Louis Braille (didn't invent Braille.) He used 6 dots.
Charles Barbier (invented 'night writing‘ in 1821, a secret code that could be used to read battle commands at night.) He used 12 dots.
What Does It Look Like?
Each braille character or cell is made up of six dot positions.
Dots are arranged in a rectangle with two columns of three dots each.
"dot 1, dot 2, etc".
SPECIAL SYMBOLS PRECEDING A BRAILLE CELL INDICATE WHETHER A NUMBER FOLLOWS.
