The genies’ landscape is a touristic offer based on the link of four universal genies with four different towns placed at Tarragona region, south of Barcelona, where artists spent long time.
Antoni Gaudí in Reus, Joan Miró in Mont-roig del Camp, Pau Casals in el Vendrell and Pablo Picasso in Horta de Sant Joan.The genies’ landscape route is a touristic experience to discover keys to interpret the artists’ Works in their artistic field —painting, architecture and music— contributing to uncover why this territory meant a lot in the work of these four universal genies.

It is an interpretation space that allows public of all ages to understand Antoni Gaudí’s architecture keys.
Antoni Gaudí was born in Reus in the year 1852. He was baptised in the priory church of Sant Pere and lived for sixteen years in the family home, which also housed the coppersmith’s workshop which played such an essential part in Gaudí’s learning process, above all in terms of seeing and capturing space. After finishing high school in Reus, he left for Barcelona to study architecture. Later on, once he had become a successful architect, he stayed in regular contact with his friends and colleagues in Reus.

A work by the renowned art nouveau architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, whose pavilion of the distinguished (pabellón de los distinguidos), which accommodated the most well-to-do families, resembled a hotel rather than a hospital.
It is one of the European best examples of Modernism. It was built by the architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner.Housing and commercial establishment, the building was built in the city centre. It features by the magnificent internal decoration, which remains practically intact.

The genies’ landscape route Miró 4
The hermitages of Mare de Déu de la Roca and Sant Ramon de Penyafort are set in the red mountains of la Roca, Mont-roig’s most characteristic enclave, which give the name to the village that captivated and was painted by Joan Miró.
Joan Miró came to the Mas Miró near Mont-roig for the first time in 1911, to recover from an illness. Mas Miró is the setting in which Joan Miró conceived and created his universe. Here he painted the works which put in him the international spotlight as one of the world’s leading artists of the day. Miró, who spent his summers here for 65 years, found in Mont-roig the inspiration he needed to create.

A tour to discover the works by the painter that were inspired by the village and its surroundings. It includes a visit to the Miró Centre, the hermitage of Mare de Déu de la Roca and a degustation of “Mont-rogetes” carob biscuits washed down with a glass of muscatel wine.
It is a 7 km marked route. It leaves from the Mare de Déu de la Roca chapel and finishes in Mas Miró, going through Miró’s inspiration places.
The Mont-roig – Miami Platja Mountain bike has 134 km divided up 10 marked routes according to its difficulty. All routes leave from the Reception point in Mont-roig; it offers a service to rent bikes for adults and children.

The genies’ landscape route Casals 5
The Museum recovers the family environment of the house and closer the visitors to Pau Casal’s intense life.
Born in El Vendrell en 1876, Pau Casals was exposed to music from a very early age, as his father was the church organist. Although he embarked on his professional career at the age of just 23, performing in the world’s top auditoria, Casals spent long stays at the house built at Sant Salvador beach, today home to the Pau Casals Villa Museum. He lies in the cemetery of El Vendrell.

It shows the environment of Casal’s family in the nineteenth century and all instruments that marked his musical career. It also shows the link between Pau Casals and the cultural and social movements of el Vendrell, leaded by the dramatist Àngel Guimerà, whose birthplace is just next to Pau Casals’ one.
Just in front of Vil•la Casals, the Concert Hall is placed at. It has a stable musical program along the year and the Pau Casals International Music Festival in summer.
A journey through the life of Pau Casals that takes you from his birthplace to the baroque organ at the church of el Vendrell, which he began to play at the age of nine, finishing with a visit to the Pau Casals Museum.
The festival, whose first edition took place in 1981, is a summer “must see” and a prestigious musical event of national renown. It is held annually in July and August.

The Picasso Centre shows a facsimile reproduction of all work Picasso created, immortalizing landscapes from the town where he lived important vital experiences.
Picasso stayed in Horta de Sant Joan twice, accompanied by a friend from the village, Manuel Pallarès. The first time (1898 – 1899) he arrived ill, but his experience in contact with the rugged natural setting of the massif of Els Ports renewed his energy. In 1909, at the time of the emergence of the Cubist movement, he returned to Horta with Fernande Olivier. At that time, inspired by the landscapes around the village, he painted Reservoir at Horta and The Factory at Horta de Ebro, among others.

The convent, which was declared Historical Monument together with Santa Bàrbara Mountain, was one of the places that Picasso painted during his stays in Horta.
It is a natural path surrounded by wild spots that goes on the former railway route. It can be done on foot, by bike or by horse.
Picasso lived in Els Ports and slept in a cave. Nowadays, you can visit this cave by following a marked route. It is the Picasso’s Cave Route.
On the last Sunday in April, in honour of Picasso, Horta holds a speed painting competition. A great day of art that fills the streets of Horta with historiographers, art critics and seasoned artists.
