Mixed Media Portfolio

IntroductionThe older I get, the more I realize the importance of using the gifts I was given. I have never taken any formal art or mixed media classes; yet I feel so much at ease when entering into a new project. These photos are untouched, and are probably not the best quality--I use an iPhone and house light to take them. Got to work with what I have! Being creative is a part of who I am. I look forward to advancing my education in art and adding each new experience as I learn new techniques to this portfolio.

Graphite & Charcoal

Sometimes, nothing more is needed then a pencil, a piece of charcoal, and some paper...

“Roots,” Black Charcoal

Appropriately placed, this was the first piece of art I created in my adult life. My friend fell in love with it…I framed it for her, and then gave it to her as a gift when she bought her first home. Charcoal quickly became my favorite medium.

“Breath Easy,” Graphite

Inspiration for my second piece came from a friend who saw my first my first Tree Of Life, and proposed I couldn’t draw a Koi Fish. This is the product of that challenge.

“Three Trees,” Charcoal & Graphite

I wanted to draw another Tree of Life because I love the roots so much and I gave my first piece to my friend. I didn’t feel like I was finished with only one tree’ therefore, I filled up each side with a tree and tall trunk. Trees are, so far, my favorite piece to draw.

“Sketching Starfish,” Graphite

Sometimes, you just have to sketch starfish!

“Live Free,” Graphite

These beautiful feathers mixed in detailed lettering was so much fun to draw….

“Sister Lilies,” Graphite

Done for a friend who actually tattooed this on herself.

“Flight Progression,” Charcoal

I’ve always wanted to draw something like this. Next time I will be sure to have a nice scenery behind it.

“Music and Art Part One” Graphite

This…I need to take a better picture of this. And soon. Incredible, beautiful detail. The song in the background is Moonlight Sonata by Beethoven.

This drawing started out as with only the “G” clef, then progressed into my best graphite work so far.

Add a little Color!

I love the simplicity of graphite; however, the more I

learn about color and painting, the more I’m falling

in love with it.Here are some fall flowers I

painted with Calligraphy Ink.

“Hibiscus Flower,” Graphite and Color Pencil

My first attempt at using colored pencil was to draw a hibiscus flower. I plan to take a closer picture of this, as it is difficult to see here the amount of detail within the leaves and coloring of the flower.

“Mandala Flower,” Colored Pencil

The Mandala is a spiritual and ritual symbol in Hinduism and Buddhism, representing the Universe.

“Sun Kissed Mandala” Color Pencil

“Disco Flower” Calligraphy Ink

I bought an “Incredible Nib,” (shown in photo) and created this piece with my new art tool. The precision is amazing. I plan to use it in all my detailed artwork!

“Elegant Elephant” Colored Pencil

This elephant came from an adult coloring book…even though it is not my design, I wanted to share it because I love the colors!

Miscellaneous Pieces

After all, art is not only made up of just paper and canvas…

“Bubble Specks” Acrylic Paint

Going to Claytopia is one of my favorite past times—I’m sure none of you are surprised by this. I took a service plate and first painted it a nice teal color. Next, I mixed purple paint with dish soap, and well, blew some bubbles! Lastly, I splattered yellow paint for the final touch.

“Music and Art Part II” Ink

I truly loved the design I made in graphite, so I decided to ink my guitar with something similar. Now I just need someone else to offer up their instruments so I can paint on them

Soon To Come!!

As I continue to learn, I will expand this portfolio. Currently, I am focusing on calligraphy, sunsets, and watercolor. Once these products are completed I will add them—so please continue to check back! I’m always up for a challenge, so if you would like to see me complete a piece, feel free to ask. Although I am a business major, I feel that it is important to express my artwork because it’s such an awesome part of who I am. I hope you’ve enjoyed what I have so far, thanks for looking!
