Welcome back to Term 2. I hope everyone had a relaxing break. Our first week back was a short week due to the Depart-
ment of Education’s notification of an additional staff development day on Tuesday. Over the two days staff at Woolomin
PS engaged in online training in two main areas; technology and curriculum updates. We also had some time as a staff
planning Term 2. A big focus of our discussions revolved around the implementation of health and safety recommenda-
tions. Please read the section below how we are helping to stop the spread of CO-VID19 and stay healthy at Woolomin
School. One of the ways we are working to keep our school safe is by reducing the number of adults who come into the
grounds. We currently have three staff working from home and three at school everyday (Mrs Smith, Miss Burford and Mrs
McMahon). Until further advice, we are asking that adults limit their time spent in the school by having parents kiss and drop
at the gate and contact the school via phone or email rather than face to face meetings. We have also postponed any ser-
vices coming into the school including The Opportunity Hub, Sporting Coaches and Joblink Plus/ Mark Atkins. We hope to
resume visits from all these amazing people as soon as possible however for now we understand it is to reduce possible
transition modes.
At present we have students learning both at home and school. Infants are being taught by Miss Burford and Primary is
being taught by myself. Miss Deaves teaches Science in both classrooms on Fridays and the primary library. Mrs Cooper
continues to attend on Thursdays and teaches piano and supports math activities in the Infants room. Mr Burnett is moni-
toring Google Classroom from his home and is available during school hours to answer any student questions. If students
want to speak with a teacher they can post a message on Google Classroom and Mr Burnett will contact them via phone.
Mr Burnett is also monitoring Maths for students in Years 1-6. Our students are very fortunate to have his extensive experi-
ence (over 50 years) in this area and I know Mr B is very keen to see our students be successful ‘mathemagicians’. He is
waiting for students to call him to take on the ‘Wall of Terror’ Times Table Challenge.
Attached to this newsletter you will find a Term 2 timetable. This timetable is being implemented for both students who are
working from home and school. If you have any questions about your child’s academic program please contact me or Miss
Burford.
Saturday 25th April 2020 was unlike any ANZAC Day we have ever experienced. It was the first time in 20 years that my
family have not participated in the shared ANZAC commemorations at Nundle. It is normally a day of deep reflection on the
sacrifice made by so many service people over so many conflicts however it is also a day of great pride. Pride in our coun-
try but also great pride in our students. It has always been a highlight of the year marching side by side with our beautiful
students. I really missed this time this year. I was very pleased to see homemade wreaths on the front gates of many of our
school families and to see that Emma and William Adams got dressed in their school uniform and went and raised the flag
at the Woolomin Hall. Well done, students! It is wonderful to see that the true meaning of remembrance and respect is
being kept alive despite the challenges we are facing. I’d like to conclude my message with a thank you to our hard work-
ing staff. Throughout the many changes and challenges over the past months, they have shown commitment to providing a
safe and stimulating learning environment for all students at Woolomin School whether that be in the classroom or home. I
have seen staff meet the challenges of learning and implementing (at a very fast pace) new modes of teaching and learn-
ing, administrative and school management duties and performing enhanced cleaning services. I have seen teachers man-
age the complex task of teaching face to face and through online platforms simultaneously. All staff have worked collabo-
ratively with me to ensure the wellbeing of our students and families is forefront in our planning. I have never been so proud
to stand with such a dedicated group of professionals. As a leader and as a grandparent, I am grateful to all the staff at
Woolomin School for their selflessness, strong work ethic and sense of duty they have demonstrated throughout the CO -VID19 situation.Make the week Magic!

Students who require support with medication or
health procedures are required to have a current
health care plan. If this relates to your child can
you please ensure you provide school with an up-
dated Health Care Plan that has been completed
by your doctor. If you are unsure if this concerns
your family please contact the principal or school
asap. Mrs Hughes will be following up that these
have been completed.
For the first two weeks of Term 2 until Friday 8
May, schools will remain operational for students
who need to attend. (Phase 0). This means that
schools are open for families that need it and that
families are encouraged to keep their children at
home wherever possible, with no student to be
turned away. After week two we move into the
next phase of the Managed Return to School doc-
ument (provided previously to parents). This in-
volves all students returning to school for at least
one day per week.
Being a small school, we are in a good position to
manage the recommended hygiene and safety
conditions. At full capacity, we normally only have
12 students in the Infants classroom and 14 stu-
dents in the Primary classroom. If your child is cur-
rently learning from home please contact Mrs
McMahon to discuss your child’s return to school
and any questions / concerns you may have. At
this stage, families still have the option to be learn-
ing from home.

is also very important that families remain in con-
tact with teachers and school staff to support stu-
dent wellbeing.
Students who are not at school and unable to be
contacted by the school to determine their wherea-
bouts will be marked as absent (after seven days).
This also applies to students that do not complete
and return a reasonable amount of work while
learning from home. Staff understand the challeng-
es of learning from home and encourage families
to keep in contact to ensure their child is not disad-
vantaged throughout this period. Thank you to the
students and families who are returning set work
to either school or Woolomin Store on the request-
ed time / date. This helps teachers with marking
and planning enabling timely feedback to students.
As part of the NBN COVID-19 Education Relief
Package, approximately $50 million will be di-
rected from NBN to help retailer providers sup-
port low-income households with school-aged
children who do not currently have an active

Learning from Home
It has been very pleasing to see how our students,
families and staff have managed the transition of
learning for students who are learning from home.
Each child has been provided with units of work for
each subject that supports their continued pro-
gress towards learning outcomes. It is very im-
portant that students who are learning from home
return completed work to school (in a timely man-
ner) so that teachers can monitor their progress. It

Physical distancing
One way to slow the spread of viruses, such as
COVID-19, is to implement physical distancing in-
cluding keeping two arm lengths apart (1.5metres)
from each other.
Woolomin Public School continues to follow exist-
ing advice on ways to minimise transmission. Our
school is taking several actions to promote physi-
cal distancing and help reduce the risk of COVID-
19, including:
• Encouraging staff and students who are unwell to
stay home.
• Providing clear markings to guide staff and stu-
dents on appropriate social distancing where they
are required to line up
• Re-arranging classroom furniture to leave as
much space as possible between students.
• Making use of outdoor learning spaces.
• Ensuring parents keep a distance from school
wherever possible, using kiss and drop at the gate
approaches and contacting the school by phone or
email as required.
• Limiting non-essential access and use of the
school site outside of school hours including the
use of play equipment.
• Limiting additional visitors to school to essential
providers only.
• Eliminating non-essential gatherings in the
school including assemblies.
• Utilising technology for gatherings and staff
meetings.
• Restricting access and where appropriate the
use of playgrounds and high touch play equip-
ment. Students wash hands before and after play-
ing handball and staff will wash the handball after
each game.
• Postponing all planned school excursions, sport-
ing activities or other large gatherings
. • Where groups of staff do need to meet on the
school site, social distancing of at least 1.5metres
should be observed.
Hygiene
WPS will continue to promote and encourage good
hygiene practices in order to protect against infec-
tion and to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
• Washing hands for 20 seconds with soap and
water at regular intervals throughout the day, par-
ticularly before and after eating and after going to
the toilet
– Immediate exclusion from the classroom of any
students who are displaying symptoms
– Placing used tissues straight into a bin
– Avoiding touching one’s eyes, nose and mouth
– Not sharing food or drink
– Not sharing personal items such as pens and
pencils etc.
• Young students will be supervised and supported
with hand washing to ensure they are practicing
good hygiene while at schools.
• Bathrooms and high touch surfaces will be wiped
down during the day in addition to the enhanced
schools cleaning program.
• Every school will have hand sanitiser distributed
throughout the school for use by staff and stu-
dents.
• Disinfectant wipes should be provided to clean
high touch areas such as desks, chairs, photocopi-
ers and computers.
