MUMBAI, Nov 8:

Sweeping reforms to reviveits battered image, including theappointment of an ombudsman, and former chief N Srinivasan'sfuture as ICC Chairman willdominate the agenda when theBCCI holds its 86th AnnualGeneral Meeting here tomorrow.

Appointment of theOmbudsman, or Ethics Officer,is one of the key changes thathave been proposed in theBCCI's Memorandum of Rulesand Regulations to be taken up atthe AGM.

With the soon-to-be-deliv-ered recommendations over gov-ernance reforms by the SupremeCourt-appointed Justice LodhaCommittee hanging over them, the Board members are all set toclear the way for this pathbreak-ing move which was announcedby Shashank Manohar afterbeing re-elected as the BCCIpresident last month.

The Ombudsman will beappointed "to deal with the com-plaints of Conflict of Interest andany act of indiscipline or mis-conduct or violation of any ofthe Rules and Regulations of theBoard by an administrator," asper the wordings of the clausethat has been proposed to betaken up at the AGM.

The AGM, which was post-

poned by more than a monthfrom its normal late Septemberdate, is expected to put in placestrict compliance protocols tothe Conflict of Interest regula-tions in the wake of the SupremeCourt's cracking of the whip onthis matter.

But Manohar will need allhis negotiating skills as a practis-ing lawyer to get it passed with-out diluting the reach and scopeof the Conflict of InterestClause.

It will be interesting to seewhether the BCCI general bodywill decide to retain its formerpresident and Tamil Nadustrongman N Srinivasan as itsrepresentative on theInternational Cricket Council asthe chairman.

There have been newsreports recently that BCCIwould change its nominationvis-a-vis ICC and nameManohar as the new chairmantill the next Annual Conferenceof the world governing body inJune when the Indian board-nominated person's term comesto an end.

Srinivasan is not scheduledto attend the AGM and TamilNadu CA is to be represented byVP P S Raman. If the BCCIdecides to change his name infavour of Manohar to be for-

warded to the ICC, it will mark acomplete end to Srinivasan'shold in the Board.

Another important change inthe proposed clauses is about theBCCI president approving everyteam picked by the nationalselection panel.

The existing clause says thatthe president "shall approve thecomposition of the team selectedby the Selection Committee",while the proposed clausereads,"The President, along withthe Office Bearers, shall approvethe composition of a team select-ed by the National SelectionCommittee from time to time."

The AGM is also set to electnew senior, junior and women'sselection panels and the pro-posed stricter adherence to con-flict of interest clause could leadto the removal of South Zonerepresentative in the SandeepPatil-led seniors panel - RogerBinny - as his son Stuart is anactive player.

The general body is also setto constitute a new IPLGoverning Council, an impor-tant sub committee, and providea roadmap for the induction oftwo new teams in place of thesuspended Chennai Super Kingsand Rajasthan Royals for sea-sons 9 and 10 of the T20 League.(PTI)
