The person on the left is Harivansh Rai “Bachchan” (who took on the suffix Bachchan)

The other person is the Hindi poet Sumitranandan Pant who suggested the name “Amitabh” for the new-born.

Both the investigating officer of the case and Nagarwala died within a couple of years of the incident, adding to the mystery
